First time using MWF: WOW!

Received my Mitchell's Wool Fat yesterday (thanks Bullgoose!) and after the kids were asleep, was able to give it a go for a nice relaxed night shave (as a dad of young kids, love the night shave). All I can say is WOW. I was a little apprehensive that it would be difficult to load and lather, but I found it to be pretty easy. Face lathered and got a rich lather from it in the same amount of time as other soaps I've used. But the lather, wow, just an amazing smoothness and seems richer than other soaps and creams I've tried (Conk's, TOBS and Mike's Natural). I'm not sure I have the right lingo to describe it, but it was great lather, plenty of it, and ended up with a fantastic shave. I've got pretty sensitive skin, and this leaves it feeling great. :thumbup1:

i haven't bought the fat yet (though tried a sample and a full puck is sitting in my cart for my next purchase), but I appreciate your reasoning for the evening shaves, I do the same for the same reasons. :D

Yeah, the mornings around here are total chaos, so I've found that the evening shave is the way to go. Luckily my growth is such that with a nice close shave, I'm still looking good at the end of the following day.

+1...i like to take care of my shaving business while the kiddos splash around in the tub, plus the boy always likes playing around with my brush and lather after i am done...just getting him ready for the future i guess

I get somewhat airy lather with MWF similar to Williams.

You dislike the lather that much? Is it just because you haven't got it to lather correctly? I haven't seen too many negative threads about the lather, only that it is hard to make I thought?

MWF has become my favorite soap hands down. Stellar performance and makes my face feel great. The scent is nothing spectacular though. It is a must have in my book.

I found that while it's a little tougher to load than other soaps, it's not really that difficult, and it creates amazing lather that is anything but airy. As always with these things, YMMV, but I found it to be a great face latherer. I also love the scent, but it's pretty subtle and I hear it fades. I've not tried Tabac (yet) as I've got the sensitive skin that doesn't respond well to strong scents but a buddy of mine that uses both loves them both.

I got a bowl 2 weeks ago and I haven't been able to put it down. It just shows how good it is that I don't even reach for anything else

For me MWF is heads and shoulders over Tabac.

Tabac is very easy to lather by all accounts. It makes a very thick frothy lather without much effort. My critique of it is despite the cushiony lather it doesn't have the slickness that some soaps do. Here is one test I do with soaps, I hand lather, when I have the desired lather consistency I scrape off the lather with a finger from another hand. Some soaps will really clean and leave a 'squeaky' clean feeling. Whether that is soap scum, or the lack of soap scum I do not know, or maybe it is just the soap. Anyway, Tabac leaves a little squeaky-ness which does not make for a better shave. (another one that does is Cade) MWF does not it makes everything slick. It provides a thick wet lather that softens, slickens, protects and soothes. It is amazing.

MWF lathers very easily for me, perhaps I am lucky. It is the best soap I have used. AoS was my go to, but it went straight to #2 after MWF. The Art of Shaving soap is world class, but it doesn't really produce lots of lather. It produces a relatively 'flat' lather. It is a great soap as well, and shaves perhaps at the same level but does not provide the soothing nature or for me, easy of lathering that MWF does. AoS soap lather is relatively easy to mess up, or have trouble lathering. MWF has a little more -explosion- of lather, which definetly helps.

The soaps I have used are: VDH, Tabac, Cella, AoS, Cade, TOBS, Williams, VDH, DR Harris, and I have a stick of Arko.

I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not. I find Williams very difficult to lather, and often with bubbles that collapse. I do get an airy lather from MWF compared to some other soaps, but not like Williams. Williams produces a thin light airy lather while MWF produces a heavy airy lather.

Regarding MWF, you probably need to use more product, as I learned from Mantic's MWF video (he recommends loading for about twice the amount of time you do with other soaps) and from B&B advice. Once you fool around and find your right spot with MWF, it is really nice.
