What's new

First time using a badger; I understand now...

So I have been "proper" wetshaving for a year now. The entire time I have used an Omega boar. I've always been curious as to why badger was so awesome; I finally picked up a cheap Tweezerman as an experiment.

First shave with it this morning. I used the same amount of cream that I normally do.

Instantaneous Speick lather explosion! I was so floored that I was grinning. Ridiculous amount of lather and it just seemed effortless. Usually I churn in the bowl quite a bit and really end up building most of the lather on my face.

After that one shave I'm pretty sure I'm always going to use badger... Already planning a Penworks upgrade down the road .

I just bought a Vulvix 374 from Penworks. Their prices were among the best for that particular brush. I started with a boar brush as well. I am now hooked on the badger brushes.

Interesting, I would say the opposite is true for me with a similar brush comparison. I've used Tweezerman exclusively for more than a few years and was very happy with it. A couple of months ago I decided to buy an Omega 48 to compare the two brushes.

For me, the Omega is superior to the Tweezerman. It is certainly a lot bigger and initially requires some minor adjustments especially if you like to face lather. However, the boar for me feels softer on the face, loads more soap, produces tons of luxurious lather, and is similarly priced.

I have no experience with higher end badger brushes, so this is not a general boar v badger comparison, it is only a comparison of the Tweezerman and the Omega 48.

Well, the knot and loft of my Omega is gigantic compared the the Tweezerman; It also did become very soft after breaking in.

I guess I'm amazed at how quickly the badger whipped up lather and the sheer amount of it compared to the boar.

Leave it to this place to give me another AD... :001_rolle

Man, if you feel that way after a Tweezerman, I can't imagine your reaction when you pick up a Rooney, or actually anything up there for that matter.

For me the Tweezerman was too soft and not dense enough. I went back to my Colonel Conk Blended Badger which is not too soft yet not too stiff. A nice balance.

I have for the most part shelved my Omega#49 after my girlfriend bought an Omega pure badger for me for Christmas.

It was part of a set with a cartridge razor and stand. She told me I could throw out the razor

I didn't toss it though, it's under the sink in the box that the set came in.

I've not noticed much difference. Fortunately I'm happy with either. Happy happy joy joy. . . what ever happened to Ren and Stimpy?
