First Straight!

Hey Everyone,

A big thanks to the community as a whole, as I'm a complete convert and have been a DE shaver for about 6 months now thanks to reading up on B&B. Based on advice here, I went ahead and ordered this guy from Larry:

It's a George Wostenholm I XL Sheffield wedge, and I'm so excited to use it tomorrow morning! I do have one question though: everything I've read states that the razor should be opened so that the scales flip up basically to form a right angle to the blade (basically 180 degrees from where they are in the pic). Unfortunately, when I try to move mine to that direction, the steel hits the scales (it's too wide). Has anyone ever experienced this before? If I try and force it, it cuts away some of the scales from trying to move past them (I only did this once and promptly stopped). I can get it to a little past a straight line (razor opened 180 degrees).

Thanks! And again, Larry is the man.

Let Larry know. I don't think he reads the forum, but I'm sure he'd want to fix that. Simple matter of repinning.

So when the blade is straight in line with the scales, the tang is rubbing the pivot end of the scales? Could you post a picture of the blade hitting the scales?

Sorry for the late reply! I did think about sending it back to Larry, but I've had so much fun trying to use it that I didn't wait to wait. I've been able to get the blade almost in position, as noted by the first picture:

Other than that, the second picture shows the blade width getting in the way of the thing opening all the way up, which is what I was trying to allude to before. Sorry if it's a bad angle, but it just basically seems as if the scales are too narrow.

I realize that it is a full wedge, so maybe I'm overthinking it. Thoughts?

Was that was a sight unseen or did he have that up on the sight as seen? Nice razor I just got mine from Larry and am very happy with the purchase. Like you I can
t wait to use it. Good Luck!!!
