Hey everyone, I have been doing my homework on good beginner razors and wanted some feedback. The obvious choise is a Dovo Best Quality with a professional honing from Lynn at Straightrazordesigns.com. Is that a good razor to start with. I have seen the next step up, I believe its the Dovo Silver Steel, and is the price upgrade worth it for the beginner. Thanks.

I think it is I started with a simnilar Dovo I 6/8. I think it is a great choice.

I have a Dovo best quality from Steve at The Invisible Edge. It's my only (so far) brand new razor. I really like it and it has set the bar for my other razors.

I'd buy another tomorrow if SWMBO is looking the other way!

No need for an upgrade, the Dovo Best will be dandy! Other options include a shave ready straight from the BST forum or Larry at whippeddog.com is great as well. Let us know what you decide to do, and post up some pics of whatever u get!

it is a great razor, and as a added bonus it hones up well and will be easy for you to maintain. by no means look at it as a compromise.

If cared for, it will last forever and provide countless good shaves. The quality control at Dovo has been rumored to have become less than it was, so a professionally honed blade for your first is probably the best route.
