Wow! I have to say that I was quite nervous, having read hoards of posts about horrible first experiences with a straight. I am EXTREMELY pleased to report that my first straight shave was completed last night with only a little irritation and one tiny cut. I was so happy it was going well, I lost focus.
I got a little irritation on my neck from going over it too many times. My neck is a royal pain in the backside. WTG on my left side is mostly a horizontal stroke toward my right ear. WTG on my right side is like Lombard street in San Francisco, CA...heck, it seems like it changes direction from day to day.
Anyway, it was a very pleasurable and educational experience. Many thanks to all the members here for making that possible. There is an awful lot of very helpful information to be had here at B&B.
I used a 5/8 Croghan Cutlery full hollow and Kiss my face mint shaving cream. I got the razor and a Simpson's Wee Scot from Jarrod at thesuperiorshave.com. I'll be dealing with Jarrod again in the future. Granted, I am a rank amateur when it comes to straight razors, but the thing has got to be well honed if I can barely feel the hairs being cut (on the easy spots anyway).
Needless to say, I am well and truly hooked!
