First Straight Shave and then the sink

So first the good news: Tonight was my first straight razor shave and it was 99% amazing! I had some worries about my blade angle which I improved as I did more passes. The other thing that should come along is just getting used to the sight-lines and whatnot as I shave.

The Bad news: I wasn't paying 100% attention (typical newbie deal) and the blade tapped against the faucet on the sink. I noticed the damage as I did a post-shave strop and saw little curls of leather coming up on the pass away from me.

I know other newbie folks have had similar issues, but I couldn't find the threads here about it. Anybody have any advice on whether or not I can fix this myself (and if I can, how)?

Thanks a ton, and I can't wait for my next shave :w00t:

I think the only thing to do is to have the razor re-honed. I'm unsure you can fix this yourself...

i wouldnt shave with that razor until its been re-honed.

Those little curls of strop would become little curls of face, which I presume you dont want.

Unfortunately, your only option is to send it out for rehoning

re hone. I did the same thing with my dovo. :thumbdown sent it out for a hone and it came back way sharper than when I first got it.

Oh! Sorry to hear that!

Yeah, you'll want to get it re-honed by somebody. It's really the only way to fix it. Sorry.

So sad that I have to send it out for re-honing, but at least I kept my DE for the time being.

Guess that'll teach me, eh?

If you don't have any experience honing razors, I would sent it out to be repaired/honed by someone with some experience.

Post a photo so the damage can be evaluated to see if the blade is salvageable.

Sorry about the razor, that's bad luck. If you live in the US you could get a cheapy from the classifieds, or a gold dollar from ruprazor, shipped quite quickly to get you through until that one is fixed.
