First straight razor shave

One thing I am consistent about is guiding the blade back into the scales when closing...every time. I have a few old straights that are just not centered no matter how much pivot adjustments I try. So I close the blades carefully, a good practice that works for me.

What matters is remembering the specific combination of foot, neck and razor position for each pass and side. It gets old trying different combinations with every shave. Kind of like mapping your beard when you start wet shaving.

This tip is credited to Geofatboy. I don't like most tube videos, but at least the man is honest that he is running a business. And he seems genuinely interested in teaching. Some people have no other help to get started.

I'm in the UK and found that a good source of information on YouTube for beginners is jj shaves. He does a series of beginners tips and tutorials that are quite good.
