First straight razor came

Got this off the bay. Looks nice, the scales are in really good condition and the pins are very tight. the tang has a little damage but I can still old it firmly. I drew it acrosse my nail and it dug in a bit and drew smoothly (which is one test I read about). Should I attempt a shave without having it honed first? I have a strop on the way... I should probably wait untill I can strop it at the very least hu. Here are some pics.

I would send it directly to a honemeister and won't shave with it. This is your first straight, chances are more than slim that a straight from ebay is shave ready.

The strop will maintain the edge but won't make the straight sharper.

There might be a honer very close to you, where are you?

The TNT is a bevel checking test, to make sure the edge is uniform, rather than sharp.

Rofl glad to know I ruined the edge if there was one, oh well. It's off to mainaman who very generously offers to do a honing for the cost of shipping.

Very nice picture.I love shaving with a Straight. I used to have ingrown hairs and had to deal with the multiblade razor cloging up. I got a few nicks when learning, but soon got the hang of it and and now look forward to my morning shave.Straight razors turned a painful chore into a comfortable pleasure for me.
