First SR shave

Shave #187 (322 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: Schick Adjustable injector, Schick blade, TSC 1st Anniversary badger brush, SV 70th soap, generic witch hazel, Thayer’s Medicated, and SV 70th AS to finish!

Really nice, indeed mindless, shave with the Schick Adjustable today!

So, having used the PAL yesterday, I wanted to also get a first impressions in on the Schick in right away. The PAL definitely has a touch more blade feel, particularly as it gets opened up more on the setting. I started today’s shave with the Schick on what I think it was the 1 setting, but after a couple strokes, opened it right up to the 3 setting and left it there. For a mild as it was still, it sure found the stubble just fine! I even went nearly directly ATG with no issues, pretty remarkable for me. I’m pretty stoked from the first two shaves on these two! Great razors! Finished up with the last of my SV 70th AS sample and a few spirit of Zarahoff Pour Homme, and it was out the door to services!

Definitely at least have to mow later, between VBS prep and heading to a friend’s house for dinner. Supposed to stay mid 80s today though, so at least it shouldn’t be too hot.

Have a blessed Sunday all!

Shave #188 (322 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: O-Clone injector, Twin blade, RR Big Bruce brush, SS Citrus & Bay soap, generic witch hazel, Thayer’s Medicated, and Bootlegger’s Bay Rum AS to finish!

In the middle of trying out some different injectors! Video is up on the Tube- GearNoir’s Shave Log!

Shave #189 (322 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: PAL Adjustable injector, Schick blade, Yaqi SF brush, CBL 50 SoV soap, generic witch hazel, Thayer’s Medicated, Stirling Pepper & Lime AS, and Fine Snake Bite AS to finish!

Nice, fresh n clean shave today!

Brought the PAL back out. Started with my first pass on the 4th setting. Definitely would not take it higher than that...it was doable, but I was quickly back down to the lower two settings for the rest. Still a very comfortable and smooth shave on those lower settings.

Back to work today to see what kind of interesting messes the little VBS rascals came up with for me! There’s always at least a couple of those “How on earth did that happen?” moments!

Weather is making a swift climb to the 100s for the weekend...boo! We’re supposed to have our community swim and bbq event this weekend too. It’s gonna be a scorcher!

Have a great Tuesday all!

Shave #190 (322 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: Schick Adjustable injector, Schick blade, RR Big Bruce brush, SC Commitment soap, generic witch hazel, Thayer’s Medicated, and Pitralon Classic AS to finish!

Today was a very nice, worry free shave from the Schick Adj. I kept it on setting 3, I meant to ramp it up to 4 or 5, but once I got started, I honestly just forgot and kept enjoying. The feel of the shave is about on level with a Tech, but more efficient I’d say. The BBS doesn’t last as long, but that’s just more to shave tomorrow, right?

Get to close up a little early today! Always a good thing!

Happy Wednesday all!

Shave #191 (322 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: O-Clone injector, Schick Twin blade, 1st Anniversary TSC badger brush, JoHS Turkish Bath soap, generic witch hazel, Thayer’s Medicated, and Barbasol PR AS to finish!

Second use of O-Clone injector loaded with twin blade. Not the closest, but at least it was a smooth shave. Perhaps the blade might be on the fritz? It didn’t necessarily feel tuggy though.

This will mean that I’ve now shaved twice with each of the injectors. Here’s how things stand so far: The Schick Adjustable is probably the smoothest shaver and probably top of the heap. The PAL is almost neck and neck with the Schick, a little more blade feel but also probably a slightly longer lasting shave. O-Clone is just a good shaver, though not adjustable. I may have to try some shaves with the full settings next.

Today is my Wednesday! Temperature predictions have dropped slightly for this weekend, so high 90s now instead of low 100s, which is a very slight improvement! VBS wraps up in the afternoon tomorrow, then begins the big ‘ol cleanup ordeal and putting everything away before Sunday. So far, I’ll admit, we’ve kept fairly well on top of things so it’s not been too bad. Still, Friday and Saturday will require a little more spit shine to get thing back to normal.

Off to work soon!

Have a great Thursday all!

Shave #192 (322 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: PAL Adjustable injector, Schick blade, RR Big Bruce brush, Cella soap, generic witch hazel/aloe blend, Thayer’s Medicated, and Myrsol Formula C AS to finish!

Well, I did it!

The PAL on its “H” setting (aka fully opened up) is survivable! Actually, it really wasn’t that bad. I did two passes on the “H” setting then put it all the way back down to “L” for the last pass. Overall the shave was a little rough on the “H”, certainly plenty of blade feel; but it was not even as remotely scary as a Piccolo or something.

Interesting to note: when one “opens up” the settings on a DE adjustable, the guard bar moves down, whereas when one “opens up” the settings on the PAL, the guard bar actually moves closer to the blade but is also pulled back away from it more.

In other news, today’s the day...soon as I get on shift, VBS cleanup! Thankfully only a couple meetings going on otherwise. We should be able to take care of a large chunk of what needs to be done today. Mostly tedious busy work.

Have a great Friday all!

Shave #193 (322 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: Schick Adjustable injector, Schick blade, RR Big Bruce brush, LNHC Amber & Tobacco soap, generic witch hazel, Thayer’s Medicated, and Old Spice AS (modern) to finish!

Pffft...no problem man!

Used the Schick on setting 8 for the first two passes...no sweat at all. Schick decided to take the more “traditional” approach to its adjustable I guess; as the razor is “opened up”, the guard bar drops to increase blade gap. Even then, because of its head construction, it’s still very smooth and feels (probably deceptively) mild. Back down to 3rd setting for the last pass. And all was good...well almost.

The last couple of times I’ve used LNHC Amber & Tobacco, I’ve gotten a slight burning sensation, but it quickly disappears after the shave, even between passes when the lather is off my face. Today I felt it pretty good during the lather building and first pass. So sad; I love this scent combo.

Yesterday’s shift was uneventful in terms of things going on after VBS wrapped up...the cleanup was killer. Even with the VBS volunteers helping some, it took the entire shift, non-stop, to get everything back to some semblance of normalcy. There’s still even a bit more to take care of today. Needless to say, I woke up pretty sore and tired. Anyway, early in shift today, so it’ll be nice to get home with some daylight and family time left. Can’t believe summer (school calendar) is almost half over already.

Have a great Saturday all! Take a sip of your favorite adult beverage for me!

Shave #194 (322 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: iKon El Jefe, Feather Pro blade, RR GC .68, Astra SP blade, 1st Anniversary TSC badger brush, Elite Puke Tub soap, generic witch hazel, Thayer’s Medicated, Fine Platinum AS, and Fine Platinum EdT to finish!

Not quite the day I had in mind today, but I’ll certainly not be denied my shave!

The week of high energy VBS caught up with the missus yesterday and services were a no go this morning, just lots of rest needed. She does the opening and closing rallies each day - dancing, music, games, motivation, etc. Unfortunately (maybe fortunately because of the heat) we won’t be doing the annual church BBQ either that will be going on in a couple hours.

Instead, we all slept in and had a chill morning. The oldest went off to a friend’s house. The younger two watched shows. Once I got moving, I did the yardwork. The missus just rested.

After yardwork and a nice refreshing shower, I had my shave! Fine gear and software all around, it went off without a hitch. The only “bad” part was that my badger has started shedding like crazy again unfortunately. Eventually I’ll likely have to figure out a way to replace the knot. I hear a lot of good things about the Golden Nib (or something like that) knots.

Hope you’re all having as chill a day as I am!

Have a blessed Sunday all!

Shave #196 (322 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: PAL Adjustable, Schick blade, Yaqi SF synth brush, CBL Roasted Oatmeal Stout soap, generic witch hazel/aloe blend, Thayer’s Medicated, and Ogalalla Sandalwood & Bay Rum to finish!

Pretty decent shave with the PAL today. As if to make me eat my own words on the video...I shaved on setting 2 and it felt a little rough today. Life likes to humble you like that sometimes.

Back to work today. Athletes In Action is holding a youth basketball camp all week in our gym, otherwise a fairly normal work week I think.

My wife’s family’s Hula Festival is this weekend, so that adds a double layer of work for our family beginning Wednesday when setup starts. Long days and late nights. Thankfully the last number of years it’s been held locally, so we can come home each day...well at least one of us (me) has to to care for the dogs. The kids like it because they pretty much get to hang out with the extended family half the week and stay in the hotel where the event is held.

These next couple weeks are going to be killer like that!

Happy Tuesday all!

Shave #197 (322 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: Schick Adjustable, Schick blade, RR Big Bruce synth brush, SS Citrus & Bay soap, generic witch hazel, Thayer’s Medicated, and Bootlegger’s Bay Rum AS to finish!

Off to work in a minute for an early day. Most of it will likely be spent cleaning carpets from VBS week.

Nice mild shave this morning from the Schick M, this one is a definite must-have. Just need to remember to change the blade for the next shave, it was cutting a little sub par, had to clean up a lot.

The oldest and middle sons are off to the water park for the day with the youth group. The extended family arrives in town this afternoon to begin set up for the Hula Festival. Here we go!

Have a great Wednesday all!

Shave #198 (322 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: Schick Adjustable, Supply blade, RR Big Bruce synth brush, JoHS Turkish Bath soap, generic witch hazel, Thayer’s Medicated, Man Dom AS, and Pinaud Citrus Musk to finish!

Out the door soon to go help my brother-in-law get a little setup done for the Festival before I go to work. I forgot to mention yesterday, this is pretty much a family run event - my FIL and MIL, his 4 daughters and their families, plus some of the aunts, uncles, and cousins (it’s a big family). That’s one reason why their family reunion is held the weekend after the festival, everyone hangs around for a while since they’re all in the area for the event anyway.

Nice shave today. Couldn’t help myself and reached for the Schick again. Loaded up a fresh blade and it was off to la-la land for a refreshing shower n shave.

Low 90s projected for the weekend, probably some early closings Fri/Sat. Sans the running back and forth (the missus and kids pretty much stay at the festival the rest of the weekend) for work and on errands for the event, it should be a good one!

Happy Thursday all!

Shave #199 (323 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: Feather AC SS folding shavette, Feather Pro blade, Schick Adjustable, Supply blade, RR Big Bruce synth brush, LNHC Coconut Oud soap, generic witch hazel, Thayer’s Medicated, and RR The Stallion AS to finish!

Needed the Oud today!

Loaded a fresh Feather Pro into the SS and went to work on my stubble. Took it nice and slow, feeling some apprehension, ended up skating the blade easily over a nice, light but slick lather. You could feel the hairs pinging off and hear the satisfying sound of stubble being escorted off the facial premises. Cleaned up with the Schick for a bloodless BBS.

Off to work soon, chilling at home with the doggies until then. Hope my bingo prize makes it to the door before I have to leave, it’s out for delivery! Later tonight after work, since I’m off early, I’ll probably go hang with the family a couple hours before heading back home (only live about 15 minutes from where the festival is at).

Have a great Friday all!

Shave #200 (324 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: Feather AC SS folding shavette, Feather Pro blade, PAL Adjustable, Supply blade, Yaqi SF synth brush, CBL Blueberry Muffin soap, generic witch hazel, Thayer’s Medicated, and Pinaud Vanilla AS to finish!

Off to work soon for an early day, then who knows what else!

Nice shave this morning with the CBL, though I must be honest, I got a little tingling again; nowhere near as much as Breakfast Blend or LNHC Amber & Tobacco though thankfully. Two passes with the Feather with on little follicle nick, and last pass with cleanup on the PAL. Capped things off with a healthy dose of Pinaud Vanilla and I’m ready to go sweat it out at work!

Festival was off to a good start yesterday. After work today, I’ll be heading over to hang out a bit. I still get the duty of taking trips to tend the dogs throughout the day though tonight and tomorrow...yay me. Haven’t been able to grab any of the food vendors’ goodies yet. Hopefully tomorrow!

Have a great Saturday all!

Oh thanks @martym!

That’s actually my shave count for the year (we’re 200 days into 2019). My open blade shaves have reached just over 300! :001_smile

Unacceptably Lasering Chicken Giblets?
That’s quite a few shaves under your belt!!
They just keep getting better don’t they?
I shave with the same razor I began with 4 years ago.

Shave #201 (324 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: Gillette Slim Adjustable, Astra SP blade, Yaqi SF synth brush, Elite Puke Tub soap, generic witch hazel/aloe mix, Fine American Blend AS, and Fine American Blend EdT to finish!

Nice routine this morning, probably about as good as can be had for a travel shave!

Brought the Slim for the overnight, which I haven’t used in a while. It’s a bit more blade feel and less smooth for me than the Fatboy, but it’s a nice travel shaver. Whipped up a most excellent lather with the Puke Tub, topped things off with the timeless scent of Fine AB, and I’m golden!

Long night last night hanging out with the family and enjoying the usual Saturday night “impromptu” jam/dance session. So I’m still a little wiped, but the missus has to be out early to go schmooze the vendors (that’s a bit part of her responsibilities at the Festival). Then, around 10, we’re off and running through the afternoon for the last leg of the competition.

Have a blessed Sunday all!

Shave #202 (325 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: Feather AC SS shavette, Feather blade, Schick M Adjustable, Schick blade, TSC 1st Anniversary badger brush, SV 70th Anniversary soap, generic witch hazel, Thayer’s Medicated, and SV 70th Anniversary AS to finish!

Video is up on the Tube- GearNoir’s Shave Log...with special guests!

Shave #203 (326 Open Blade Shaves) of 2019:

Gear: Feather AC SS shavette, Feather blade, Schick M Adjustable, Schick blade, RR Big Bruce brush, Cella soap, generic witch hazel, Thayer’s Medicated, and Barbasol PR AS to finish!

Nice, fresh shave today.

Great day hanging out yesterday with the family; though it is always difficult keeping ground rules in place when so many non-normal routine things are coming along. So, beyond trying to reign that in, it was a good day.

Slept a little late this morning. Had my shower n shave. Off to work in about an hour. Temps are going to be high 90s/low 100s this week unfortunately. That’ll be pretty miserable for me. Definitely looking forward to the family reunion this weekend and heading to Santa Cruz next week!

Happy Tuesday all!
