First Shave

So I shaved with the Lush "shave the world" It was my first straight shave ever so I took my time 1hr30min!! I think it helped me because I could see the direction my hairs grow to ensure I went with the grain. I had to reapply in some areas as I took so long it would dry. But overall a good shave and a great experience. Thanks to all who post tips and techniques, it really helped to take the fear of holding a blade against my throat away so I could concentrate on getting a close shave. I only went with the grain as I am prone to ingrown hairs.

Question for others prone to ingrown hairs: Do you go ATG or XTG what are your experiences?

Hour and a half, eh? Truly dedicate to achieving that zen-like shave. :thumbup1: Congratulations of your first straight shave. I use a DE, and I used to be prone to getting ingrown hairs from going ATG. So now I shave with the grain, and some areas across the grain. There's one area that I can't go across the grain on, and that's my upper lip. If I do that, then I get little bumps there.

Don't worry about time, you will improve. That's awesome that you continued and didn't stop!

I do WTG/XTG/ATG when I shave with the straight. I wouldn't recommend ATG right away when you're starting. It will take you a few passes to be confortable WTG, then a few more XTG. When you it feels right, try ATG.

Good luck!

congats mate - it takes a while at first, but as you get used to what youre doing the time will be much shorter
