First Shave with my Gillette Tech

So after cleaning up last weeks purchase I decided to give my Tech a whirl this morning.

I am very familiar with Derby bladses, so loaded one up and also used Proraso Green whipped up in a mug.

I have to say that was a Very Smooth Shave! I can't imagine at this point getting any shave much smoother, and only with 2 passes. This will a razor that I will use for a long time. :euro:

Techs are awesome razors. They often get the tag of a beginner razor because they are a fairly mild razor. Mild or not, they provide very comfortable shaves.

So be sure and join the comments on the thread found at Tech Tuesday. You can record each shave as you move forward and experiment with the razor

Techs are some of the cheapest and best razors out there. If you are getting a great shave out of Tech and Derby in 2 passes, I would say you are all set. This is super mild combination and as your experience and shaving needs grow you may want to move to a sharper blade like Astra SP or even Super Max SP or Feather or 7 O'clock yellow, black or blue. Tech with those sharp blades is even better. Then, if you outgrow that combo, there is always shimming the blade for a more aggressive shave. So as you see, the Tech can be the only razor you will ever need. However, do give Super Speeds a try. I find them almost as mild as a Tech, but the one piece design makes blade change a breeze and they are also beautiful and inexpensive. Vintage Gillettes are superb tools. I recently tried a Gillette New with open comb and that's a predecessor to the Tech and way more aggressive. But I love it. Not an everyday razor for me as I am still well served by mild razors like the Tech, Super Speed and modern Edwin Jagger DE89-type razors. Still, I will use the aggressive New regularly, especially when I got more than a few days' worth of growth on.

Enjoy the Tech, it's awesome. I have three, including one travel model.

I agree they are great, and also to use an open comb razor or adjustable set high for a few days growth. I have 3 and even got my girl using 1 of them. Enjoy!

The Tech, it is not just for Tuesdays, it is an everyday razor!

Good to know.... because I also used it today, (Wednesday). :wink2:

I have a few more blade/soap and/or cream combos to experiment with... who knows, they might even turn out better yet.

Tomorrow I work later so will be my straight razor morning, and touch up with my Tech.
