First shave with complete gear set up...

This morning I shaved for the first time using an Erasmic cheapo brush, an Erasmic shaving stick, my 60´s Gillette Slim Twist (with a Wilkinson Sword Classic blade), Witch Doctor (Witch Hazel gel) and some Nivea Replenishing ASB. Took my time and did two passes and a touch up. Very smooth result.
I like it! Very pleasant. I get much less irritation now than before but I am still not where I want to be. I am enjoying the journey immensely though!
For the rest of the week I will stick with the same gear and do two passes (one wtg and one xtg) to get the technique down and get used to the brush and stick routine. I will have to work on my technique on the lower parts of the neck. That is where I still get a slight redness.
Then it is time to start trying out new blades.

I think I got myself a new hobby...

yup. give your skin about 3 weeks to get used to your angles and new razor then enjoy perfect shaves!

Read somewhere that olive oil can be used as a pre shave oil to good results? Anybody tried that?

I´ve been using baby oil but I have never tried a proper pre shave oil, so I can not compare it to the real thing.

Oils are for cars and cooking, not faces. That's my opinion anyway. Never found a need for pre-shave oil. A good lather is enough.

personally, i find olive oil to be too heavy and gunky. it does work however. to start with, a lighter weight oil like pacific shaving oil or shave secret would probably be easier to deal with. they're also cheap.

if you like the PSO experience, then you can upgrade to something like truefitt and hill PSO or gentlemen's refinery (my current favorite).

proraso also makes an excellent pre/post cream that is outstanding. i've only used the traditional menthol formula, but they have a new one with green tea and aloe. worth trying.

Shaved this morning using the same stuff as yesterday. I really like the fact that I can now shave daily. With the cartridges I had to wait at least two days after each shave to avoid irritation, and still I would not get satisfying results.

Did three passes and (WTG, XTG & ATG). This resulted in some more irritation than yesterday.
I have now decided to resist the ATG urges and do two passes and skip the ATG. Maybe go ATG every three or four days or so.
My new goal is to have consistent, irritation free shaves on a daily basis and worry about closeness later. CCS will do for now.

Btw I REALLY like the Slim Twist!!! The Witch Dr gel is great too.

when i first started DE shaving the ATG pass would irritate me as well. I have found over the last couple of months that unconsciously I am using less and less pressure ATG with better results and ZERO burn

+1 skip the ATG pass until you can get consistent irritation free shaves. It took me about 6 weeks of just WTG and XTG shaves before I could throw in an ATG pass.
