First Shave with Col. Conk Limes

Well, yesterday was my first shave with a Col Conk soap. It worked out really well.

I poured some warm water on top of the soap (I left it in the container it came in)
Took a shower
Poured the water/soap into my bowl
Started to lather, it actually lathered very well very quickly.
Nice clean limes scent, although the wife said it smelled a bit like cleaner. :mad3:

All and all a nice shave. Today I am going to try the Col Conk Bay Rum...

Conks soaps are a great deal. If you like a sweet almond scent you have to try the almond soap. Best of the lot IMO.

The bay rum is my favorite. I found the almond a bit too intense and cut it with a puck of VDH Deluxe. I think the performance is about the same for Conk's and VDH Deluxe. "Nice, not thrilling, but nice." The VDH is cheaper and locally available. Conk's cost more, but smells really good.

Aren't the Colonel Conk's and the VDH made in the same factory? Are they essentially VDH soaps with different fragrances?

I never really cared much for Col. Conk soaps. IMO they don't lather as nice as I would like to. Scentwise they are lovely though. Glad they work for you, it's always nice to have a cheap soap at hand that does the trick.

I tried Conk's lime soap, but had a bad reaction to it as soon as I put it on my face. I want to try one of the other scents someday to see if they work for me. in the meantime, I really like Honeybee's Lime soap.

I've used the Sweet Almond as my travel soap because I bought it in the plastic travel jar. I've rarely used it at home but did today because I've always liked the scent and was very pleased with the results. It may not be my go to shave but I can definately see it in my rotation.

I found Conk's Lime to be an OK soap. I was a bit disappointed in the very very mild lime scent, but it shaved OK.

I will not be buying it again though.

check out the ramekin's from pier 1 imports. they work well with conks soaps and can be melted down to fit in the bowl. and they're only $1

no problem. I read about the ramekin's from several other members and they work great. just pop a puck in the ramekin, and zap it for 20 seconds in the microwave. look at it to check the consistency and zap it for another 10 seconds. let it cool on the counter and yer done.

Really. I am not crazy about it. The lather is not that thick and it doesn't really give good protection for sensitive skin. :(

Thx for the tip I found the $1 ramekins from Pier1. :c9: I think I read of people mixing soaps and zaping them in the microwave, I may try that.
