First shave with a Slim.

loaded up my Slim with a Feather blade for the first shave with it today. i have a coarse, thick beard and decided to start in the middle and gauge it from there so i started it on 5. i received very feedback on the first couple swipes with the razor. in fact it felt like it wasn't taking any hair at all of but in fact it was. i thought this could be due to the Feather blade but i like to hear feedback so i know i have the correct angle so i upped it to the 7 setting. heard more feedback and kept it there throughout the first pass and it was really decent. no tugging, pulling, irritation. i lathered up again and changed the setting to a 3 for the 2nd pass. i did a combo of WTG and ATG on the 2nd pass and then felt around for stubble and touched those areas up. on the 2nd pass set at 3 i could not feel the blade against my skin at all. it was like i was shaving with no blade and had me worried i'd make a bloody mess with the Feather blade. but no mess and a DFS in the end.

i'm thinking i might try the 8 setting next time, then 4-5 on the 2nd pass.

i also have different blades: Shark SS, wilkinson, Derby, 7 o'clock SS green, and Astra SP. has anyone used these blades in the Slim with great results?

I've thrown Sharks and Wilkinsons in my adjustables from time to time and found that I don't like the Shark at all. The best blade I've used so far in mine was a feather. To be fair there has'nt been one razor that I've liked with a Shark blade.

I shave with the fatboy and the slim, I tend to set the Slim to lower numbers than Fatboy with feather, Astra SS but not gillette greens. I enjoy SS the most with the Slim but...ymmv

I know I love my Slim, I've been using it exclusively the last month or so. So far, I've had awesome results from it paired with an Astra SP. I start on 5 for my north-south pass, and dial it down to 3 for my south-north pass, which is mostly ATG. I'm fixing to try a new blade (Rapira Super Stainless), so it'll be back to my Flare Tip for that.

i have an Astra i'll load in it for the next shave. i'm actually thinking bout starting it at 8 or even 9 then going down to 5-7 for the second pass. a 2 day growth for me is pretty tough.

The Slim is still a contender for my number 1 razor. Feather is a great combination with it for me, as are most of the Russian made blades like Astra.

I like my slim - heck i like it so much that i just bought a razor lot with either two or three of them in there.

That being said, I'm a "set it and forget it" shaver. Usually a six.

Nice timing on this thread for me yesterday, as when I got home my first Slim was in the mailbox. Shaved this morning using a Personna Lab Blue. I really like this razor! The shave was far superior to that I've gotten from my superspeed (I think due to the weight as well as the aggressiveness adjustment). It felt more like an open comb shave, yet it was very gentle. Anyway, it will likely replace the superspeed in my regular rotation, and will accompanied by the following: Fatip Grande, Tradere OC, EJ8911, Cadet TP01.

i think i may like the more aggressive razors. i set it on 9 for todays shave and really enjoyed it. the audible feedback resulted in a better shave for me. turned it down to 5 for the 2nd XTG and WTG pass. there was slightly more noticeable irritation but nothing a good post shave lotion couldn't handle. i think feeling more of the blade against my skin is what i need for my shave.

now that i'm finally doing lunch with Springs1 i hope she likes it.
