First shave with a Gillette New short comb

Picked this up today and couldn't wait any longer to try it out. I had almost2 days
of growth. Used my usual Proraso green cream with a Gillette Silver Blue blade.
The 2 passes were probably the smoothest I've ever had and the first pass felt
like I wasn't cutting anything . 2 passes with a touchup produced a nice BBS
shave. I think I have a keeper

I find both the SC and LC versions of the Gillette NEW to be outstanding shavers. For me, they shave the same in comfort and in closeness. Surprisingly, there is not much posted on the chronology of these two sibling razors, but I understand the LC dates from about 1929-1936 and the SC was the younger brother dating from circa 1936-1940. But who knows for sure? Probably no one on the forum was shaving during the Depression decade of the 1930's.

Enjoy your razor! I’m on record as saying the short comb New is my desert island razor. For me, it’s hands down my favorite vintage razor.

I had my first short comb replated in gold by Chris Spencer at Back Roads Gold, and it is now a work of art. I bought a spare; now the spare is on its way to Back Roads Gold for a new nickel finish!
