What's new

First SE shave.

Weekend and I’m feeling brave. No better time for my very first SE shave.

Hot shower. 3P pre-shave. Dr. Selby 3x cream. Semogue 610. GEM 1912 with CVS blade.
Took me a while to find an acceptable angle. Sensation quite different from DE. Got a bit of a razor burn. Alum, cold towels and an ice cube. Thayer witch hazel followed by some Cool Fix. Not bad for the first run.

Will try again tomorrow.

Really lower your blade angle compared to a DE, and that razor burn and irritation should go away. Shave with the top cap on or JUST off of your skin. Once you get used to them, I have found the SE to be at least the equal (and at times superior to) even the best DE razors.

Good luck tomorrow, and keep us posted on your progress.

When you try the Clog-pruf Micromatic, you will wonder how DE's ever won the blade wars, and conclude, rightfully, that the decline and fall of Western Civilization begins with production of the Micromatics ceasing.

I'm not convinced that SEs are better at faceshaving than DEs, at least not for me. although I like to use them I don't get better faceshaves - ever. have used a Micromatic, g-bar, 1912 so far I much prefer the g-bar. I also have a couple of lather catchers waiting to be cleaned up, maybe they will be better for the face.

I do however use SE razors almost exclusively to headshave and have nothing but spectacular shaves with them. I also find the g-bar great for shaving the back of the neck and also for a quick tidy up of any little bits I may have missed while faceshaving (polishing).

Went back to almost the same set up this morning. Used QCS Cayman cream and badger. Tried to keep less of an angle. No irritaion, but after WTG x 2 and ATG x 1 a lot of stubble left.
