First SE Shave

It was interesting! I asked for advice a month ago here and received great feedback. I was going to start with DE but skipped right to SE instead. My equipment - which took a while to get - was:

  • 1912 Damaskeene
  • GEM Stainless Steel blades
  • Proraso Sandwood soap
  • Escali badger brush
  • Ceramic bowl
The lather went well and I did a hot towel on my face while the brush soaked. For the actual shave, it might have been good. I had a week's worth of beard growth and trimmed it with my electric trimmer then took the Damaskeene to my face. I was looking for the infamous scraping of hairs sound but I don't think I maintained my angle properly the closer I got to the center of my face. Every time I rinsed the blade I didn't see that much hair going down the drain. I omitted going with the directions of my growth for this first shave and just did ATG under the bridge of my nose. It was nothing but downward strokes.

Overall it seemed like it went well. One really minor nick and some irritation on places I did multiple passes. My skin's decently smooth. If I went ATG I would be ridiculously BBS as evident by under my nose. One thing that seems to pique my curiosity is the blade looks slightly crooked sitting in the razor. Is that normal of a SE?

After a tussle with my smart phone, I finally got them onto my PC:

Not that crooked I suppose. Is the blade sitting correctly?

I think there is a tendency for the hair to get pulled under the guard where the lather collects, but the hair is not as visible when you go to rinse the razor off for some reason. This might be due to some sort of Coanda effect. Whatever the reason, it's interesting.

With my 2nd shave tonight, I noticed the hair more but definitely it's definitely less than what would be expected.

Overall tonight was better. I had to go back and do a few spots I missed and I followed the hot towel with a cold splash. Practice will make perfect in time.
