First (proper)Straight Shave Today

I bought some cheap straights on ebay without really researching them a few months ago and the result was not good! Gave myself a real gash on my cheek so I gave up on the idea of straight shaving for a while. Am DE shaving for 2 years and never really had a problem. Alot more involved in Straight Shaving though! Anyway I bought a dovo special from the invisible edge a while ago and decided to give it a go this morning. The difference this time was a shave ready straight and it was a different game completely. It will take some real practice but am determined to get this right. It wasn't altogether a bad shave but cant say it was a good as my regular DE shave, not a bad start I think. No blood at least. I would like to thank all you guys for your posts and advice because without it I wouldnt know where to start. Also the guys over at The Invisible Edge for their friendly and prompt service. By the way I also had bought a new Taylor of Old Bond St strop, linen one side, leather the other, just wondering if any of you guys have used it or what you think of it.
Thanks again.
Happy Shaving.

It takes months to develop the intuition needed for perfect blade incidence angle, pressure, skin surface tension, etc...and all of that's so much more of a given with the DE razor.

Can't imagine anyone preferring the DE once they've achieved mastery, though, except for its increased speed.

The learning curve take time but I think it's awesome! Good work!

The delivery service at The Invisible Edge is lighning fast. They do some nice vintage straights too.
Keep at it. I used DE's until I discovered straights and I can't see myself going back while I'm having this much fun.
I love my DE's, but I doubt I'll be using them much, other than when I'm pushed for time.
