First Date Ideas

Hello gentlemen,

So, I have recently reacquainted with a girl I had a huge crush on in High School. As it turns out, she also liked my quite a bit at the time but I was just too big of a nerd and unfamiliar with the ways of women to notice. However, I now have a rare opportunity to correct the follies of my youth as she has agreed to go out on a date. Desperate to impress, I have been running through some first date ideas in my head. However, I would also like the input and critique of the B&B community. Here is my plan:

1) Romantic picnic lunch in a certain Los Angeles are park.
2) Hopefully, we will have enough to talk about over lunch that lunch will last enough time to hike up to the neighboring observatory when it is near dark.
3) Enjoy the view of Los Angeles and the stars on top of the hill.

I know this seems like a very intimate first date, but keep in mind we already now each other quite a bit but just have never dated. Also, if any fellow Angelenos know of nice picnic ares beside the one I mentioned above, which will be painfully obvious, please let me know.

Have fun! Be careful at the observatory. As I remember from my movie-watching days, trips there can end in tragedy!

Seriously tho, it's great to have a chance at a do-over like this. Make the most of it. Good luck!

I think the picnic idea is a good one, but I would also let her know that you were thinking about taking a walk. I am not sure how significant the hike to the observatory is, but she probably wouldn't be thrilled to trudge up a mountain with wedge heeled thongs on.

I understand your thinking but for a first date I'd be inclined to go to a restaurant. I appreciate you know each other but I just don't like the idea of a picnic. I guess it seems too informal to me. I don't know LA but lunch at a good restaurant by the sea (if that's a possibility) leaves the door open for lingering walks on the beach after eating. Maybe the observatory has a restaurant? Here in Auckland in one of our older nicely laid out parks there's a restaurant that also does formal teas - is that an option for you?

How bout dinner at Shutters on the beach in Santa Monica...follwed by walk on the beach and Santa Monica pier...

If I knew my date was wearing a wedge heeled thong, hiking up a mountain would be be the last thing I'd do.

Bada boom!

I hear Dunkin Donuts is really nice.

Lol. I remember that post, it seemed to work well for that user.

Believe me she is not the type to wear heels. Last time we met she was wearing a pair of worn-in Doc Martins. Also, hiking is one of her favorite pastimes.

Shutters? Christ man what do you think I am an investment banker? Part of the reason I chose the picnic idea is that it would not hurt my wallet too bad. Anyways, she is not the type that would be impressed by me throwing my money around.

Hey you said you were going for impressive...no worries, the picnic is a great idea...not when its 113 outside though.

Go with the picnic idea.

Truly out of the box.

I had a date with a nice gal recently. I found out she liked hiking. Our first date was spent hiking the greenbelt. Lots of quiet time and time for getting acquainted. We had a light lunch afterwards. It was a good time for both of us.

Having worked in a female dominated profession for most of my adult life I have listened time and again to the "why can't they be original" remarks about first dates. A nice picnic and hike to the observatory is probably pretty unique.
A guys gotta be able to distinguish himself from the herd these days.
