I did my first cold shave today. The prep was easier - I didn't preheat my cup. I did use warm water on my face in the shower - if that's cheating you're going to have to wait a very, very long time until I don't.
The lather seemed a bit reluctant to bloom, but that could be my imagination. I did end up with a fine mess of cold lather. My first rude surprise was when the cold razor met my cheek. Wow, that was a shock - and not in a good way. I can imagine how nice that might feel if the ambient temperature was closer to 90 degrees (rather than the 70 degrees this AM).
The blade seemed to pull a little, but I might have been going slower than usual on the first pass. My beard definitely was not as reduced as normal for the first pass, but I did end up with a fine shave after three (with a little extra clean up on the chin).
I seemed to have a bit of razor burn after, but I'm not sure because I stupidly used a different moisturizer than usual (had a sample and couldn't wait).
It was interesting. I will try again on a really hot, steamy day. I'm pretty sure I'm not a cold shave convert, but I'm glad I gave it a go.
