First Brush Restore Knot Advice - Pics Inside

Hey guys.

I just finished drilling out the knot on my very first restore project. It's a blue Ever Ready 89. The hole seems to be roughly 20mm. I would like your advice on which TGN knot to stick in there. I'd like this brush to have some backbone for soaps but also be able to use creams. I'm thinking this http://www.thegoldennib.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_9_43&products_id=244 20x60mm Two band finest set at 48-50mm loft? What do you guys think?

Also, the brush is hollow inside! Do I need to build up a base to set the knot or can I do it without doing so? If I want to weigh the handle down a bit, looking for advice on how to do that too (is there a point to weigh it down besides feel?)

Thanks

I believe you will need to fill the handle with something. I know a lot of guys use cork for light and lead shot for heavy. Or some combo for something in between.

Anyway, I recommend Finest or Best, but I like a little scritch.

I'd eventually like to try a silvertip, but at the moment I'd like this brush to not be too floppy. So the 20mm two band finest is a good choice then? I'm about to order...

I definitely recommend the finest. It is a very nice grade of hair for the price and has more backbone than the best.

All I'm going to say is that when I get around to having a custom brush made, I will be going with the finest.

just placed the order at TGN for a 20mm finest two band badger w/ extra hair. can't wait for it to get here!! anyone know how long it usually takes (i'm in NY)
