I have not used a shaving brush before, so have only read some of these threads gaining info. I plan to start shaving with a double edged razor after many years using a cartridge razor and aerosol gel. To start I selected some cream in a tub, and will try different techniques to build lather. Bowl, hand, face, etc. I ordered a couple of badger knots to set in home turned handles. Both are 22m. One is a finest badger extra hair 2 band measuring about 60m above the knot. The other is a silvertip grade A measuring about 57m above the knot.
My question is what finished height above the handle will yield the best "all around" performance since I have no developed favorite lathering method yet. I assume that if I set the knot deeper into the handle it would yield a stiffer brush. Also the finest badger 2 band is firmer than the silvertip, so it may be able to stick out farther without being floppy. I may want to try soap in the future so probably shouldn't optimize the brush for cream. Or I could set up one brush for cream and the other for soap? Any suggestions are welcome, Thanks
