Fine Brush?

Anyone here own a Fine brush? How do you like it? Also, if you own any Simpson synthetics, how do you feel their "angel hair" synthetic compares with Simpson synthetics? Also, if you own a Simpson, which grade of synthetic would you recommend? Looks like they have a few. I confused!

I had one of the Fine stout brushes a while back. I thought it was ok, but I did not keep it. It wasn't as soft and comfortable as other synth brushes are (I don't know if they are using new knots now, but their synths have been out for a while and from photos I've seen it doesn't seem like they've changed to using a newer/nicer knot). At the retail price, I think you have better options.

I also had and moved on a Simpson Trafalgar T3 knot (which I guess is called the Sovereign grade synth hair). I would say that I liked it more than the Fine but I still didn't love the overall feel. It was almost a little plastic-y feeling when doing painting strokes, which I know sounds weird but I'm not sure how else to describe it...

I'm a big fan of the AP Shave Co synths, I have several and enjoy them. Are there any particular characteristics that you're looking for? For example ultimate softness, strong backbone, more scrubby, etc.

I had a Fine synthetic and didn't like it, so I gave it away. Too floppy, the loft was too high and it had no backbone.
I much prefer my denser packed Trafalgar T3 (sovereign).
The other brushes I own are all badger or boar.

I understand what you mean by "plastic-y feeling." That's partially why I'm asking. That's something I'm trying to try to avoid. I have a cheap synth that came with a stand that I purchased off of Amazon. It has that same feeling, and it doesn't hold water very well either. I want something that has decent backbone and a little scrubby. I have an old badger hair, nothing special, it's probably 20 years old, not the highest grade, but works well. I have a boar hair Semogue OC which I really like. I like the scrubbyness as I feel it's great for exfoliating. I think I want something that will have still have decent scrubiness and fairly stiff backbone, but have good water absorption as well. I think I may also lean toward a smaller knot size. My Semoge has a 24mm knot and the loft has bloomed to where it overwhems the opening of my smaller tubs of soap/croap like Cella Red to where a lot of the bristles stay on the outside of the tub/jar as I lather. A small thing, I know, but it's my excuse for getting another brush. That and I want a decent quality synthetic just to round things out a bit.

How would you describe the performance of AP brushes? I've been looking at the Timeless "adjustable" brush system as well and it looks like AP is the knot they primaily sell.

They’re all a little different, there’s actually a pretty good comparison table on there where you can get a rough sense of what the characteristics are like on different knots.

You might check out the G5C, or the Pure Bliss which is newer. I have a couple others but they are in the softer side and might not have what you’re looking for in backbone and scrub. Andrew is also a great resource and very helpful, he’s a vendor here and is great about answering questions and giving feedback. Don’t hesitate to pm or email him, I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

Man, that AP shaves has a lot of nice knots! I'm beginning to wonder now if the Timeless handle wouldn't be the way to go. AP has several interesting knots I wouldn't mined trying.

I really love my @apshaveco G5C.
Firm but soft.
