Finally got a BBS shave

Hi all
I started wet shaving only about 2 and a half months ago (the last weekend in March to be exact). My shaves have always been great. I absolutely love whipping up a lather, and using different blades, etc.. But I still was in search of that Baby's butt smooth feeling after the shave. You know what I mean, where you take your finger and move slide it up and down your face and there is absolutely no friction at all. Well, it FINALLY happened today.
I usually use AOS lavender preshave oil, and then make a lather out of usually a combo of soap and cream ( I believe some call it a superlather). Well this morning I was running a little late, so I decided to skip the pre shave oil and the soap, and only use a cream. I used TOBS sandalwood, and whipped up a nice later. Grabbed my Merkur 38c (Had a feather blade in there from previous shave) and off I went.

WOW.. I was in a rush, and still made three passes like I always do. But for some reason, it gave me a BBS shave. Maybe it was the angle of the blade, I dont know.. But i am elated.

Just thought Id pass my little story along, since it made me so happy

I still haven't gotten there, but to be honest I'm not sure I want to. It seems like the closer I get to BBS the more likely I am to get razor burn and ingrown hairs. Maybe some day. But until then, I'm happy with having to shave every day !

This may be a coincidence but I also had my first great shave the day I was in a rush and skipped the pre-shave prep. Now I know this goes against all the advice but I didn't use any preshave, just wet my beard constantly while my brush soaked with warm water and that was it. Great shave!

I tried the same thing the next day and great shave again. When I went back to the preshave prep I found that the shave wasn't so great. I now don't use any fancy preshave methods or products and regularly get awesome shaves.

I was using conditioner, moisturisers, Proraso pre/post, leaving lather on for a minute then rinsing and relathering. Now nothing but warm water. This is weird but I think my shaves are better when my hair is hard, seems to cut closer.

+1. Just finished shaving and got amazing BBS. Just used VDH Deluxe Soap, a Tweezerman Brush, and my Fatboy on 5 loaded with a Lord Super Stainless Blade. Proof you don't have to spend a fortune on shaving products to get a phenomenal shave. Oh, yeah!
