What's new

Finally getting some really good lathers out of my Truefiit & Hill soap.

I went all out on soaps in my last order to give them all a good thrashing and what not. After giving the T&H a couple of tries I wrote it off as just an overpriced venture in mediocrity like a few others that I have read here on the forums. Well, I'm still without a replacement Muehle razor and I can't stand slashing my face up with my Merkur so I decided to get a Sensor XL to shave with in the interim. If I'm going back to mediocre I might as well go whole hog so I swiped the T&H off my water heater and have been giving it another go this week.

I find that if I really load up my brush, ridiculously, it makes a pretty darn good lather. Thick, dense, and with a slickness that stays on the skin that's reminiscent of my favored DR Harris Arlington. The scent has also sparked my memories of Fruity Pebbles cereal though I do not think that was the effect that the T&H chemists were shooting for.

All in all the performance has perked up for me though I still think the scent is too weak (and now it makes me hungry for highly sugared cardboard infused rice substitutes). I might consider keeping this one on my shelf in the future now.

Fruity Pebbles? Dont get that. A nice fresh lavender is what I get. I find it comparable to D.R. Harris soaps. They are both good soaps but nothing to write home about. I will not be rebuying either. I find Trumpers soaps much higher in quality. I will say though that the T&H bowl is probably the coolest wooden bowl out there;) I am not saying the soap is bad but its just not great. Much better than C&E but no where close to Tabac. A great middle of the road performer I would say:)

That's the weird thing is that I do not really smell the lavender at all. The Fruity Pebbles comes from some lingering citrus scents. Like a sweet orange or lemon scent.

I agree with the scent being weak. It's clean and pleasant, and if I try, I can detect a bit of lavender, but it's not strong enough.

T&H makes some wonderful scents, and it's a terrible shame that they don't offer soaps as part of the fragrance lines, especially considering that the Luxury soap is a very solid performer.

I would go crazy for a puck of Trafalgar shaving soap!

i find the T&H soap a solid performer as well and also don't detect much of a scent other than a bit of lavender. Because of it's not too strong scent, i often go to it when i'm trying out an aftershave that i don't have a matching soap/cream for, since it doesn't seem to overpower or mesh with lotion/balms into a weird smell.

i must say, a Trafalgar or 1805 puck of soap would be awesome.

Rowsdower!!!

Yeah, if they improved the scent (or dare I say went with Trafalgar) it would definitely be a top performer. Right now though it's a decent soap with a less than decent scent.

I have been using T&H soap for the last five months continiously. It is almost gone.

I can sum up the last six months as: meh. At first I could pick up the lavender, but now it just has a faint ammonia scent.

Which reminds me of a cat litter box that hasn't been changed... which reminds me of lilac vegital... which makes shutter and weep for humanity.

I absolutely love the scent of T&H Luxury Soap but unfortunately I found the shaving qualities a little lacking. I think T&H would do well to bump the quality a bit and then offer soaps in their signature scents.

I had a puck of T+H soap and it was a solid performer after a little practice. Even though it is very mild-scented, to me it is still a summer soap. I PIFed my puck to a friend in Australia and retrieved a puck of C+E Siena from my closet for the coming cooler weather.
