What's new

Finally found the perfect shave.whats yours?

So I have been shaving with a DE for about 2 months now and there has really been a learning curve. At first I just plain sucked....then I got frustrated....then I almost quit....

But recently things have changed a lot. The last few shaves I have had have been amazing. I havent had to use the styptic pen (much), I get a good shave, and I feel/smell/look great after. Although I do think a lot of it has to do with my technique getting much better, I also think part of it is that I have found products that work great for me. Each one of the things that I currently use in my opinion are leaps and bounds better than other products I have tried. I cant imagine using any other products. (although I do want to try a merkur slant sometime)

Here is what I have been using!
1) Dreadnaught pre-shave oil
2) TOBS almond
3) A restored silvertip badger brush that I did myself
4) Astra SP blades in a Merkur 34c
5) Clubman AS

So my question to you all is.....
Do you have a favorite set up that you go to every time you shave?! Or, like I did when I first started, do you switch it up every shave?!

I am constantly rotating my arsenal between razors/blades/creams and soaps. But I do try to stick with a theme. I have an unscented kit of AoS that I consider to be a go-to, as well as a AoS Sandalwood set. I have recently completed The Body Shop Maca Root set (preshave oil, cream, after shave). I also have plenty of Mama Bear soaps to throw into the mix. Razors I change up usually daily; (Tech-Tuesday, Fat Boy -Friday, etc) And with blades, I'm starting to get the feeling of which blades go with certain razor types. If I want to feel pampered, I break out the Aristocrat with Med Prep blade and get a heavenly shave!

As with everything, YMMV, but play with it and see what you like. I am a firm believer that Variety is the spice of life!

Right this moment I would say my perfect shave is:

Mekur HD (34c)
Astra SP blade
Omega boar
Harris Arlington soap
Pinaud Clubman aftershave

Tradere OC razor
Personna Lab Blue blade
AoS soap or creme
Thayer's Witch Hazel (lavender)
English Leather after shave

So far, my fave shave:

Proraso pre-shave cream
Proraso soap/cream mix
Crane Cutlery 5/8 straight
Proraso aftershave

That combo in the morning will wake you up like nobody's business.

Impossible for me to choose as I change everything pretty much every day and pretty much always enjoy it! I'm kind of jealous of people who can dial it in! I did use Vitos super coconut yesterday and REALLY enjoyed it. So much so that I'll probably use it again tonight!

Proraso pre-shave original
Merkur Slant w/Med Prep Blade
Simpson Duke 3 Best Badger
Any Mike's Natural Shaving Soaps
Alum
witch Hazel
Captain's Choice Bay Rum

I'm still experimenting with some soaps/creams, but the leader right now is: Merkur 37c slant, Astra SP, superlather of AoS Sandalwood soap and cream, Semogue 830, Captain's Choice Bay Rum AS...but that Red IP in the slant is doing great....and the Med Prep in the Progress....and I'm learning The Fat....oh, well

Anything I pick up.....

For the past couple of months I have been trying to decide what I could sell so I have been doing some serious evaluation of my razors and brushes.

The problem is every time I try one, it gives me a perfect shave.

I wonder if they are scared one might get sold and doing this on purpose?

Man, no way i could list 'the' perfect shave. Too many oustanding combos to choose from. However, here's on of them:

My own home-brew preshave gel consisting of a mix of: aloe life, jason vitamin e oil, glycerin and lavender eo
EJ86 with feather blade
Semogue soc boar brush
Acca kappa 1869 soft soap
Razorock king louis lavender aftershave lotion (spray)
Rive Gauche EDT

That is a shave truly fit for the gods!

Think I found my razor. Going to try a few different blades, but here is what I use.

AOS sandalwood oil Proraso green tub soap (waiting on sandalwood cream)
feather stainless
Merkur Futur
witch hazel
Razorock alum if needed
AOS AS gel

Milord TTO (plain band by TTO knob), Personna Red blade. Just a ridiculous shave. Super smooth, no irritation, can't feel the blade. Led me to sell off much of my collection and order 250 blades.

That said, I like shaving with injectors and GEM SE, even though the shave will be good, but not incredible.

My best shaves I've gotten here in Afghanistan. I'm using:
Parker SR1 shavette
Astra SP
Hot towel (preshave)
Col conk bay rum soap
VDH boar brush
Pinaud Bay Rum AS

All while using recycled toilet water so if i can get bbs results here, I can't wait to see what I can do back in the states!

I've only been doing this for a few weeks so I'm not sure what it is worth but my favorite is:

Nivea Revitalizing Face Scrub
Anthony Logistics Pre-shave oil
Brush & soap from VDH Luxury Kit
Merkur 180 & Persona Blue blades
Pinaud Clubman (200 anniv ?)

Thank you for your sacrifice sir. I'm glad you have a moment for at least a comforting shave.

I'm thinking probably an incredibly beautiful redhead with precious little on, expert with a straight and way too friendly.

I have been DE shaving for the last 2 and 1/2 months. I have setteled on the following routine, and it seems to work pretty good.

(1) I use NOXZEMA as a pre shave.
(2) A splash of water to my face
(3) Lather from either (a) Honeybee hard puck soaps(ihave 6 different ones) (b) Proraso cream soap in a tube or (c) arko stick
(4) Apply lather with either my TWEEZERMAN or PARKER 100% Badger black brush
(5) Use one of my 16 safety razors I have collected, yes I am RAD
(6) I switch between DERBY EXTRA and ASTRA Superior Plarinum razors blades. I use each type blade for 2 days in the same razor.
(7) Post shave. Apply Witch Hazel then Clubmens's After Shave followed bt NIEVA sensitive BAUM.

Conrats on your success. I find I'm able to get a really good shave using almost any of my razors and gear. Every so often one will be not so good, but I'd attribute that to a slip up in technique.

I have been getting perfect and easy shaves lately with:

Merkur Progress on 3+
Voskhod blade
MWF Soap
Semogue SOC or 1305
Murdock ASB

* Weber DLC with one shim/Progress @2
* Super Iridiums
* Mystic Water/Mike's
* too many brushes to list
* unrefined shea butter
