Finally BBS!

I'm new to the forum and my story is like a lot of the others. Electric razors never quite cut it and I have been shaving with a mach 3 for 15 years. Well finally I was fed up with the prices of cartridges so I found this forum after searching the net for an alternative. I started with the Edwin Jagger DE89 and a blade sampler. 3 months later and I have 1918 gillette WW1, 1949 Super Speed, 1965 Slim adjustable, 1973 Super Slim (My Birthyear razor) which I love all of them and today I just received a Gillette blue tip super speed from the bay. Well tonight I thought I would try out the blue tip. Lathered up some GFT coconut and did a 5 pass shave. WTG,XTG,XTG,ATG,ATG. I have preferred the Feather blades but loaded an Astra into the Blue tip for a change. Low and behold I got myself my first BBS. I have been able to achieve this on my face but not my neck in the past, but the Blue tip glided across my neck with no problems AGT. My neck grows West to East so it's tough to do AGT.

Anyway just wanted to say thanks for such a great forum!!!
Next up I would like to try a straight razor.

Its great to hear that you have finally tasted victory!

I usually have to do several touch-ups on my neck and don't get it totally BBS but I have gotten extremely close on occasion. I'm still learning too though.

On the neck, you might try diagonal strokes in lieu of attempting true ATG. Of course, stick to whatever works for you.

Viseguy, I actually had been going diagonal but just never achieved bbs. Just dfs. Tonight I thought what the heck a blue tip is suppose to be less agressive so I went truly AGT with it just to see what would happen. (In the past I butchered myself pretty good trying that on the neck) I had no intentions of getting it tonight it just kind of happened. Probably just the combination of that razor and blade was the trick.

DFS or CCS is fine for below the chin / neck. No need to burn yourself up.

John I agree!!! Like I said it just kind of happened. I normally just go for a good shave with no intentions of anything else. Next thing I know "Bam" I got BBS.

Blue tips are great razors. I've had the best luck with Astras, Feathers, Crystals, and Persona blue labs in them. Congrats on the BBS shave.
