Filarmonica Novodur #14

Hey guys. Have a quick question. So I just now got interested in vintage razors and found some filarmonicas on ebay. I heard I can't post links to active auctions so I wont but this one in particular has me interested, the problem is......it is horrendously expensive. I mean this thing is going for the same price as a new Zowada razor. It's a brand new razor, never been sharpened, no rust or cracks..... it's absolutely perfect. It is an 8/8 blade. I was wondering if these were typical prices for a razor like this.

Yes, they go really high. But, come to thing of it, there are ALWAYS NOS Filarmonicas for sales it seems. It's not like one pops up once a year. I would much rather have a Zowada myself.

On the flip side, many swear on the smooth comfortable shave off a filly.

I've wanted a big Filarmonica for a long time now but I've kind of given up on the idea, there always seems to be someone around with deeper pockets.

Just remember, price does not always equal performance. To be honest you can get a razor that shaves just as well for a fraction of the price, as a matter of fact the razors I usually reach for the most usually cost me the least.

Most of my razors are very inexpensive. I recently decided I wanted something a little special and saw this thing and thought it would make a great sunday shave or special occasion. Then again so would a Zowada......my brain hurts! :cursing:

I've got a big Filarmonica and a Zowada. Whilst both are excellent shavers, it's no contest, I'd take the Zowada ahead of the Fili every time.

If I am not wrong who are you talking about on e-bay, he overprices a ton.
I can't speak about customs as I do not own one, but Filis shave real well. There are other options for vintage razors that shave just as good a s Filly and are much much cheaper. Just have to go out there and try blades.

Those expensive NOS razors are for collectors IMO. i prefer cheaper good razors. also i would divide that money for many razors/hones/strops/soaps etc.

Filis are WAY overpriced

+1 on that
simply not worth it
I hear revisor solingen has a nice section of NOS razors (as well as modern manufactured ones) , beware, the price isn't always too low, but they are some high quality fairly priced razors on there

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to pass on the fil. Will look at some W&B and just recently found Robert William's razors. Maybe I'll shell out for a Zowada one day lol.
