February 2023 Gentlemanly Restraint Until Month End (GRUME)

Day 1, 3.6% complete.

Preshave: Hot washcloth
Soap: Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary
Brush: Yaqi 24mm synthetic cashmere
Razor: GC.84 SB, Al Handle, Astra SP #2
Bowl: Turkish copper
Post-shave: Nivea 2-in-1 Aftershave

Started the month with the ever-reliable SV70 soap. The Astras are smoother on second use, and the Game Changer is my favourite razor. A comfortable near-BBS.

Notes to today’s shave:

Second shave with my Green Cult Flask. Yesterday went well so I expect a similar shave. I have the razor a second hand polish and I now like how it looks. Feels smooth to the touch as well now. Second use of the Tiger blade and it already started tugging. My mind so would like to embrace this blade and I have had wonderful shaves with it in the past, but it seems to have a taste for only specific razors in my den. It seems the GC2.0 is not one of those razors. The razor itself didn’t mind and went to work anyway. A nice DFS- with smoother cheeks was the end result.

More details can be found in my journal here.

The star of the shave was the GC2.0 II. TO end in true @flask28 fashion and style:

Hey Guys
The 830 brush is excellent and I realized it didn't "hog" the lather today.
Straight razor shaving is a great new adventure! BBS territory with no irritation.
🍻 to great shaves.

Please take care of yourself & each other.

Still in 🙏🏽

Hurray for my plaything Prismatic and the good old Gillette Platinum.
This twentieth blade I tried in this lovely razor was excellent. The series started with one great shave after the other, but the last few shaves were not what I was hoping for. But this blade showed me again why I adore the PAA razor.
What can I say about the badger fat (!) tallowed Areffa soap? Absolutely brilliant. Can't believe these Ukrainian soaps haven't rocked this forum yet. Try this soap, brethren. Best soap out there.

Another go with the boar. Not sure what I am doing wrong, loaded for a count of 40 but still not enough soap. Back to the puck for another 30 and was able to get a good enough lather. Seemed thin...too wet to start?? Will squeeze the knot instead of just flicking it tomorow.
On another note being as today is my sweeties birthday I decided to use "her" Henson medium. I may have to buy another! Fantastic shave that might be as close to BBS as I have been yet. Amazing considering the subpar lather.
Second note: seems I need to learn to use shaving cream. Finally got to sit down with my Grandson this morning and he got me a tub of Rocky Mountain Barber sandalwood cream.
