Feather SS

A few weeks ago I began my foray into "straight" shaving with a Feather SS non-folding razor (loaded with a Kai guarded blade) that I had purchased. While I have been lucky enough to not cut myself and to suffer only a few very minor weepers, I still cannot get a decent shave out of the thing. I suspect the issue has to do with my angle; but try as I might, I just can't seem to get it right. Might the issue be the lips on the SS? Or should I switch to a non-guarded blade? Or, maybe, just keep practicing? Everyone's thoughts and experiences would be most appreciated.

I got my SS folding about a month and a half ago, and I didn't get a very close shave on my first pass, due to my angle being too shallow. I didn't go ATG on the first shave, but the second shave I did, and IMO the magic happens on the ATG pass. If you're not doing an ATG pass, you should give that a shot. But with the rounded edge on the SS, you do need a steeper angle to shave closely. I prefer the feel of the DX/RG head profile (thinner edge)

Try doing a WTG pass with the spine close to the skin, then add a second WTG pass with the angle a little steeper before moving on to the next pass. Which might be another WTG pass or an XTG pass. See if that gives you a "closer" shave.
