Feather Portable:: One wicked little shaver

So I tried my feather portable today with an Iridium Blade.

Wow!

Really impressive and comfortable shave.

Where it usually takes me 4 passes with my tech to get a BBS, with the Feather it took me 3 and BBS! No cut's whatsoever.

So this one has just bumped the tech out of my "goto" list and easily took it's place.

As safe as a Tech but slightly more aggressive. And the best part is that the tech handles fit on the Feather head. What one would want more?

It is a great razor. I had occasion to use mine which I keep as a travel razor on a recent trip out of town. I had forgotten how effectively it mows down whiskers!! It's almost a pity to keep this stalwart shaver hidden away in my dopp kit only to be used on infrequent trips.

3 pass BBS with a Derby. No nicks, cuts or weepers.

The Feather Portable is a great razor. It's not fancy. It's under-appreciated. If I were stuck with this razor long term, I would be very happy.

I tried the Ball Tech handle on my Portable, and like the balance of the shorter Feather handle with the Feather head a lot better. The balance felt off with the Tech handle. YMMV, but it's worth trying if you have both razors.

K.T.

I pif'd mine a while back, and i'm starting to miss it... after you've used a portable, a aluminum tech pales in comparison...

Definitely one of my favorites. I use mine regularly and employ it as a "diagnostic razor" when trying new blades, soaps/creams, techniques, etc., because it is so predictably good and flexible that it takes the razor variable out of the equation for me.

+1 !!!

It is my go to razor and quite a few other razors are collecting dust at the moment, till I get over my love with the portable. It is a simple, no-nonsense, just right aggressive razor. Pity Feather pulled the plug on its assembly line !!!

Funny you should mention this. I just pulled mine out of the drawer this morning. Great shave, although I did give myself a tiny nick (I'm out of practice because I've been playing with the Hydro 3 lately).

I must say that based on performance alone, I wouldn't need any other razor. Used it for 3 shaves with a "blank Personna" and the results were very good. It's a bit more agressive than the 34C, but nothing that can't be managed if you apply the correct technique.
I prefer the heavier/solid "feel" of the Merkur, but price vs performance this little razor can't be beat.

I bought the other day a Feather portable (quite cheap btw), and it shaves very good. But my Mühle looks like a monster next to that tiny little thing!:biggrin1:

Ah, so interesting! I have these two as well... And, I love them both!
I just have 3 more NIB portables stocked, just in case. ;-)

John was very kind and gifted me one of these.

I was able to try it out last week and the performance is every bit as good as my Merkur HD razor. It comes with a great little case (pictured above) and 2 feather blades. Originally, I thought I would be using it when I travel or go up-to the cottage but this will definitely be used at-home as well. It's a great size and a lot of fun to shave with. I was so excited after using it that I went out and located more of these to offer as a June/Father's day special on my site.

Thanks again, John, for introducing me to this awesome razor and for your generosity.
