Feather, measure of all blades (part two - the Tech)

I will compare some popular blades to the Feather (that's a 10). The setup:

1961 alu handled Tech
Jaguar 236 brush
ARKO shave stick (rubbed on the face, and some loaded on the brush)
Turkish tallow based soap (Haci Sakir) with Olive and Palm oil as a prep, after the shower (I leave my face wet).
I hand strop the blade.
I do 2 WTG passes, with some touch up.

The Feather gives a great shave, DFS, with no problems.

Tech + Feather is one of the magical combinations of all shaving gear. It's automatically a good shave, and fully capable of rendering a shave DFS or BBS on any given day. My favorite DE + blade combo.

Haci Sakir :thumbup1:

Yes it is a great soap, as well as the DURU soaps btw.

Since I discovered the Turkish shops carrying Arko the only hand soaps that enter the house are Turkish also. There is a matching handsoap for the Arko (in scent & tallow!) by Evyap too; the DURU Classic!

Even my kids love it!

Here the Turkish shops only carry Haci Sakir, alas. And it seems some maniac has bought all their ARKO shave sticks and fat cream

To make things even more suitable for beginners, I will use a Lord Tech (with Merkur head).

First blade: Indian Wilkinson. Good shave, nice and smooth. CCS with no problems. I rate it 8. This combo would make a real nice daily shaver...And at minimal cost (razor 10 usd, brush 4 usd, ARKO 1 usd, prep soap 1 usd, blade about 12 cents).

You want to walk in the light Wil, and I don't blame you; great performer and my standard razor to try new blades with. Too bad for me you didn't continue with the Gillette Tech since that is the one I am struggling with.....:glare:

I know, this one is far better for me than the Tech. And, this is the razor that got me DE-shaving. After I had tried a shavette a couple of times (every time a nick of about 5 mm, and then waiting a week for it to heal), I ordered this razor with 100 Lord blades. After the first shave (great, and no blood!) I decided to stay with DE-shaving...But do not worry I will check some blades also with the 1961 Tech.

Second blade: Personna Red. Very smooth blade, but even in the Lord (bit more aggressive than the original Tech) not sharp enough for my coarse beard. I would need 3 passes with this blade. It does feel like that would be no problem, so I might try that sometime. For now I will rate it 7.

Third blade: Gillette Super Silver (nos). Good shave, no problems, but just not sharp enough. Gave sort of a CCS, with some extra stubble left. I rate it 7.

As a treat I put a Gillette Super Silver in my Rotbart Mond Extra Open Comb. Great shave, DFS in 2, no problems. Just as smooth as a Tech or the Lord, but much, much closer...The only reason I once also had close shaves with the Lord was because I pushed on the razor ;)

And to compare I put a Personna Red in the open comb. Very nice shave. CCS in 2, no problems. Not the sharpest of blades, but nice and smooth.

Will start again with a new set up:

1961 (German) Tech
NN Turkish horse hair brush
ARKO shave stick
Kirk's Castile fragrance free as prep

Like this I will only use stuff that is widely available at reasonable cost.

1st blade: Derby (new/vertical). The shave was good, fairly smooth and sharp blade, CCS in 2, but I could feel my skin during and after the shave. There is something about Derby that does not agree with my face. I will rate it 7.
