Feather - First Use

Hi

So i have less than 4 months of DE experience and have been getting pretty good shaves. My fav blades so far are Astra SP, Red Personna and Crystal Blues. However i decided to try Feather this weekend in my trusty Merkur 34C HD. I immediately noticed that it was definitely sharper. I managed to finish my shave with only one or two small weepers. But the biggest problem was i had a lot more red irritation afterwards. My post shave treatement did clear it up eventually but the difference in irritation was very noticeable vs when i use Astras or Red Personnas.

Ive used it 2 more times and although my irritation was less this morning it was still more than i usually get. I think i will stick with my Astra/Red Personna/Crystal Blue for the time being. I'll try again in a few months.

Anyone else get similar results?

Maybe you are applying too much pressure and or coming at the wrong angle. I like the Red Personna and Crystal blades also, smooth and sharp. Plan on giving the Astra SP sampler another try one day, BTW they gave me the worst burn but I know now it was mainly because of my technique.

For my face, feather sharpness is not worth the irritation.
I don't use them.

Same thing happened to me! The Derbys that came with my EJ89 just dragged and tugged and were horrible. When I tried the Feathers, they seemed too sharp, cut myself up, gave me irritation and trying to go ATG was torture. I then settled on Astra SP, got 100 pack and used them and nothing else, same set up for a couple of months. I re-visited Feathers and they're now my go to blade. ATG with Astra SP was rough, but now that my technique is much better I can get a much smoother shave with a Feather, without giving myself the whole burning neck irritation that I got when I first tried them.

Yeah you are probably right, i need to continue working on my technique. I'll come back to the feathers in another month or two. I guess the Astra SPs are more forgiving than the feathers.

I also learned to make 3 passes on my most sensitive area around my Adam's apple, WTG, XTG and XTG. Never ATG there. I still get reasonably close there and always avoid irritation.

i found them very unforgiving, and extra emphasis on technique is required.... else my face gets pretty pissed off.

In the end, the incremental benefit of the sharper blade was outweighed by the extra irritation, and they are out of my rotation
