Feather Blades

Hello All,

I'm a die hard straight razor user but like to travel occasionally with my old double edge from Gillette. The only blades I've ever used were Feathers. As recommended, I corked these prior to using.

The resulting shaves have left me in a bit of pain. Now, to be fair, I'm not as skilled as some...maybe even most with a DE so that could be the problem, but always seem to walk away with a good bit of razor burn.

My question...is a feather blade a "tough" blade to begin with? Is there a better blade for a part-time DE user? If so, suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

I do find that my first shave with a feather to be the roughest, It smooths out after that, I feel that the 3rd shave is wonderful. that being said I prefer Astras because they are nice and smooth right away.

Most blades require some "break-in" period. However, some blades start smoother than others, requiring little to no break-in. You are not alone in the fact Feather blades tend to be "unforgiving" at the onset. Try to use as light a touch as possible when you use a new Feather.
