Feather Artist Club DX

I was briefly flirting with the idea of getting a straight, even though the idea of stropping and honing scared me quite a bit. I had heard of the Feather AC system before, but for some reason had never been interested in it.

That changed, and for me it clicked--in lieu of a traditional straight, I will go with the Feather Artist Club DX with the Teakwood scales. Maybe one day I'll be ready for a full-on straight razor, but for now this will be fun to rotate with my DE razors--in theory.

I'm sure you will enjoy the razor. I have the cheapest model and it is a regular in my rotation. Usually at the weekend when I'm not in any hurry as care is needed!

It gives me a wonderfully smooth shave.

I have the exact razor that you are speaking of getting and I dont own any tradtional straights. I enjoy it so much. I also have the Japanese straight its amazing for rotation. Its unforgiving if your not gentle but a two pass super clean near BBS shave is possible, whatever is between DFS and BBS. I have used a blade on it for so long I got worried about it being sharp I changed it not because I got bad shaves but just out of amazement that it was still sharp - this was past the 10shave mark for a blade. As the blade ages it actually gets better for me. Make sure you try all the blade types because I thought the supers professionals were the one for a while then I tried the average blade, the professionals, and to my amazment they were spot on. The Supers are for one pass shaving in my opinion, they are bloody sharp and even more unforgiving. Some on here dont like the feathers at all but for me they offer the satisfaction of a straight shave without the stropping and honing. A box of blades will last you a long time at least 6 months + and that is if you change a blade around every week, which you will not need to. As your technique improves so will the life of the feather blade. If you have any question dont be afraid to ask me. Oh yeah, the feathers cut through everything hair and flesh, if not careful as some say in the south there "stupid" sharp - which is a good thing. My DE blades were not this type of solid sharp.

Appreciate all the info! I was wondering about which blades to get. Maybe I'll start out with a box of each when I buy the AC.

Guys, thanks for the enabling...er, encouragement! I will let those interested know how it goes--I'll probably order it next week, on payday.

I am waffling again. I may be getting a regular straight after all--I have my eye on a 6/8 Le Grelot from Thiers-Issard. I will probably go back and forth on this until payday.

I just bought a Feather 'Artist Club DX' Razor (with the black wood handle), and I got some free blades, one pack of professional and the guarded ones.... not a bad deal :D

Can't wait to give it a try, don't imagine it becoming my go to razor, but definitely will be fun :D And a bit 'poncy' :D If I don't get on with it, it'll be going on here on the B/S/T :D :D

Have to respectfully disagree here. I gave the AC a go for a few months, but ended up getting rid of it. Honestly too scary sharp. And quite a few bleeders!
...I do have to admit it was one of the smoothest shaves I ever had. But it took so long due too the extra added care this unforgiving razor needed, I wish I had gone straight to a traditional strop and hone...or a slant:thumbup1:

Just my 2 cents, but either way ,I recommend corking the blade 1st use
