Feather Artist Club DX shave and a question

I recently bought a Feather AC SS and enjoyed the shave experience with a Feather Pro Guard blade. I bought the DX and noticed that the shave angle is much smaller, almost flat. Because of this (I think) the blade holder had a tendency to stick to my face. Actually felt like it was being sucked to my skin. I know it's not the shaving cream or a hydration problem. Has anyone experienced this? Is it the angle as I suspect? Perhaps the stainless vs the coating of the SS?

A lot of people try to use such a small angle that they keep the holder against their face. Just lift it off your face and use a larger angle. But a lot of people stick to the longer blades (pro?) because they like the shallower angle. I got over that very quickly and found that they work better at a larger angle. It's more of a straight than a safety razor, but people keep it very low because it feels more like a safety razor that way. I think we're talking 15 vs 30 degrees, but that's with the pro and normal blades. A lot of people had trouble with guards in the DX. I didn't know the SS was different.

I guess this isn't really of much help.

I am fairly new to using an AC DX non folding. First set of blades are the lights and I am having the same problem. I am a regular straight and Dovo shavette user. I think the issue is the short protrusion of the blade. I am going to get professional single blades which are cheaper and protrude much further. Should do the trick. Nicely made, well balanced piece otherwise. It is an angle problem and not hydration in my opinion. Hope you didn't get cut, I have a few reminders to slow down.

@PDman: with the DX models the blade holder has a tendency to stick to the face when using a small angle, that's due to the stainless steel, the RG models who are made of brass don't have that. But it's no big deal, just use a somewhat bigger angle (I use the same as with a normal straight, 30 degrees or more).

Feather Pro Guard & Light blades just don't work for me, I prefer the pro, super pro, kai mild and dorco blades, but that's something you have to try out for yourself. (btw I didn't like the SS models either, they are ok but I get much better shaves with the RG & DX models and the Kai versions of those)

@u2u: your correct, the light blades don't stick out far enough to give a good shave IMHO

Although you indicate it is not a lather issue, I think that for straight razors, and the Feather DX, the lather should be "wetter" than for a DE. I have seen several posts that indicate this preference.

+1

Now that I have one of each, I agree. It is not a big deal, as a slightly larger angle takes care of the blade sticking.

Thanks for the feedback. Just ordered some Kai Milds non guard. I think I'll also try a little wetter and thinner cream after reading some of the comments here. I had a pretty nice thick Tabac lather going.

You will do fine, but please keep in mind "very" light pressure is needed with these sharp blades. Even less pressure than with a standard/traditional str8 razor, or DE razor.

+1. IMO the razor should slide over the face even with the razor flat on your face. I don't find the DX sticking to my skin at all IME.

I think using the guard blades could be part of your problem. I never liked the guard blades, I found that I tended to cut myself more when using them. Of course that was when I first started straight shaving, I think they tend to give one a false sense of "not going to cut you". Now after over 4 years of disposable blade straights, I prefer the Feather regular pro blades as the ones that give me the best results. Also I've found that using short strokes results in a better shave with less chance of the blade/razor head sticking to your skin like you described.
