I've found that I need a really slick lather/gel for the sharp Feather blades to work well. When I used soaps or creams to make my lather, the shave suffered. I started using Nivea shave gel and the shaves have been great. I know that Japanese barbers use a gel. In YouTube videos, it's so light that you can barely tell that it's on the skin. Has anyone found this to be true as well?
As a side note: I bought an Ebony Feather DX razor, or what looked like an Ebony Feather DX razor, for a pretty penny earlier this year. When I got it, it was very different from the DX razors I've handled. The scales were different and there was no Feather logo on the tang. I thought the razor was fake so I put it away. I recently had someone contact Feather Japan and they told him, and he told me, that the razor is the model that came before the Artist Club line. They didn't say how long it was manufactured but it has to be a while ago. I thought I'd share.
