Feather - a single passer's best friend?

Some mornings or nights, I need to shave but I don't have time for extensive prep or multiple relatherings and passes. With most decent, well-regarded blades (Iridium, Gillette 7 O'clock Black and Yellow, Astra Platinum), I can do a passable job with just minimal prep and one pass. With some blades (Shark, Gillette Super Thin, etc.), I need at least 2 passes to make things acceptable, at least with my current razors of choice: EJ DE89 with a Bob ultralite XL handle or old Gillette Slim adjustable I just "inherited" from my wife's grandpa (RIP, Ralph, and thanks for the mint Slim!).

Enter the Feather. With a single pass in either of these razors, which ends up being mostly WTG/partly XTG, I can get a DFS each time with no problem. It's astounding really. I have really sensitive skin that's naturally prone to irritation, a condition which has been aggravated recently by a course of Prednisone, but the Feather always delivers a smooth, close, irritation free shave. Perfect for the DE89, as well as the Slim dialed to 7. I might even bump the Slim up to 8 or 9 next time just to establish boundaries, or a lack thereof!

Anyway, as a sometimes single-passer, the Feather is a vital part of the tool kit for me. Anyone else in love with this blade for single-pass duty?

I wish I could get DFS in a single pass, but the Feather has been my go to for the past few weeks because after 2 passes and a few touch ups I'm there. Only having shaved with a DE razor since June, the only other blade I've tried is Derby. I can get a DFS, almost BBS with the Derby, but it takes another 2 passes and many more touch ups.

I can't get a DFS with a single pass. if I had to shave only with one pass, I'd go back to a Mach 3. sure my neck ingrown hairs would re-appear, but it would be the closest shave. I DE shave because with 2 passes I can get an irritation-free DFS or with 3 passes I'm BBS without irritation.

what's 10 minutes of your day to allow for 2 or 3 passes anyway???

I completely agree. Many times I do the same thing and with a single pass shave and I can only get the best results with a Feather blade. They are truly wonderful blades.:thumbup1:

Oh, believe me, I vastly prefer it when I have that extra 10 minutes for 2 or 3 passes. Sometimes though, when I'm simultaneously dealing with (a) getting ready for court, (b) helping to get my toddler ready for the day, (c) feeding and walking my dogs, (d) catching a bus that gets me to (e) the right Metra train to get me to court on time, a single pass is all I get!!!

When this kind of perfect storm hits, or similar, I'm so f'n happy to have the Feather blade loaded up.

I've been trying different blades lately but I always go back to a feather blade in my Edwin Jagger DE89L. I can get a DFS and really close to BBS on my face with 1 pass and 2 passes on my neck.

Anyone hand strop or cork feathers?
