Favourite scale material and blade shape?

I'm new to shaving with straights at the minute I'm messing around with gold dollars trying to get them shave ready so far I've managed a shave but it wasn't the smoothest was just wondering what blade shape people preferred and scale material?

I think looking through razors I like a French points? and rams horn scales.

I love French points, I was actually looking for one for a LONG time. gave up because theyre rare, and super expensive. Scale wise, I really hate light scales. for the most part, almost all straights come with a lightish scale set. My girlfriend for xmas got me a stainless steel scaled straight, and that thing was like...perfect weight!

fav. scale material is white linen micarta. fav. blade is a Spanish point. but i use all blade styles full hollows are my fav. grind. i rarely use wedges but when i do i prefer the 5-6/8 sizes.

If you are up for it, just start grinding away at the GD and make it what you want. Just make sure it doesn't overheat and you can do all kinds of crazy things to them. Is that the plan? Couldnt tell from the OP.

Square and spanish points look great but they're tricky. I'm a skinny guy with hollow cheeks and I tend to cut myself there when using square points. As a consequence round points are the best choice for me.

In reply to your question I prefer a French Point, love thumb notches and of currently available scales I think blonde horn looks the bee's knees.
If I had to say which scale I prefer but isn't currently available I'd say Ivory, just don't tell SWMBO.

I was just wondering really what people liked but yeah hopefully I'll be able to make something both attractive and functional from a GD one day. I'll walk before I can run though as I'm struggling with the edge which when it comes down to it is the most important thing. Thanks for the replies it interesting to see what other people like and why.

at this very moment moment like most anything but round points. they look off to me, however there are some "round" points like a TI or le grelot, that is kind of boxy and I like them. my favorite to look at scale material is something like a mammoth based...

My favourite scale material is wood, either light or dark. As about blade shape I love all square points.

The above is my favorite for creating from a GD and pretty much my favorite all around.
