I've been building quite a collection of razors over the last 6 weeks. I love it. Definitely addicted. Wet Shaving is a great compliment to Fountain Pen collecting. All of this had been said before, so I'll skip it.
The point of this thread is that, if a friend was to come over and ask me which one of my razors is my FAVORITE, I would probably reach for my Gillette Gold Adjustable Executive. This razor came to me appearing NOS. It's beautiful. That said, I can't get great face shaves with it yet. (100% falls on me and my technique, not the razor.) I just haven't found a way to make it hum for me.
(The Executive is great for my head shaves, just not my face.)
So what would I grab as second in line? Probably an Adjustable Aristocrat Slim. Love it. It's a beauty. Same issue. Haven't gotten a great shave yet.
Next: Probably my Hoffritz slant. I love the design. It's in great shape. I get GREAT head shaves with it, but just haven't been able to nail a great face shave yet. This is my primary head shave razor.
So what gives me the best face shave? A razor that I believe is called an Old Type OC on a cracked Ball End handle. The gold plating on this razor is terrible. Nine different shades at least, ranging from copper to bronze to brown to gold to gunk. Cracked handle. Overall, a real ugly duckling.
BUT: this razor gives me the best face shaves. I love it. I don't want to love it, but I do. It has taken the primary spot in my face shave rotation.
Anyone else out there have this issue?
