Favorite Movies Since The Last Pandemic

Surely, after almost a year, we must all be bored of re-watching our favorite movies. Recommend something new, and out of our comfort zone to watch. List your favorite movies from each decade since the last pandemic.

1920s – (my favorite decade) - Cabinet of Doctor Caligari; Nosferatu; The Phantom Carriage; The General; La Roue; Metropolis; Napoleon; The Passion of Joan of Arc, Battleship Potemkin and many others. I probably have 400-500 silent films on dvd. My wife refuses to be in the same room as one, so it's a solo watch.

1930s – Pre-code movies, talkies prior to the Hollywood Decency Code in mid 1934. While mild by today’s standards, women actresses ruled that period of Hollywood. They were awesome. Baby Face (Barbara Stanwyck) is probably the most outrageous example. Night Nurses and Three on a Match are also favorites of mine. I still consider the 1933 King Kong (a pre-code) one of the greatest movies ever made. I would love to have been at its premier at Radio City. The original, made only a couple of years after the silent period, is far better than Jackson’s billion dollar remake.

1940s – my wife and I like a lot of movies from the 40s. Can't think of anything special at this time.

1950s – (my second favorite decade) – other than all the monster/syfy movies (like THEM!) I got to see as a kid and still enjoy, On The Beach and Barefoot Contessa may be my favorites from the 50s.

1960s – Night of the Living Dead. No blu-ray or remake will ever beat seeing it at a drive-in in the 60s, with people shuffling in the stones past your car going to and from the snack bar. The drive-in experience made it even more scary. My wife and I were dating at the time and went back 3 nights in a row. The Undertaker and His Pals was also an over-the-top drive-in movie around the same time.

1970s – Dawn of the Dead. The first 10 or 15 minutes of the remake was good, but overall we prefer the original.

1980s & 90s - lots of good buddy movies, but can't think of anything special.

2000s – A Very Long Engagement (French). Great movie. One of my all-time top 10 films.

Funny Billski. Yeah that was frequently on our Admiral Black and White TV. I still recall the music.
