I am planning to replace my Norton 220/1000 with something specific for my straights. I plan on just bevel setting with this, not for major chips. I will follow it with an soft Ark then back trans. What are your favorites? I am looking at Shapton Kuromaku 1500, looks like the shapton pro. A few others I can't find the threads to look up is why I am asking. Happy Thanksgiving as well.

I use a Chosera 800 that I originally bought for knives. It works fine.
Any fast cutting 1k stone
Chosera 1k or Naniwa speciality stone 1k (excellent feedback). Though I couldn’t find ground breaking deference on the outcome from both.
Edit: that’s what I use; I am not saying is best option. Any 1k from a reputable brand would do the job for sure.

I use 12u lapping film. Very easy, cheap and consistent

I would never discourage anyone from experimenting with new stones but that Norton will set a bevel with the best of them. Just need to keep it dressed.
Shapton glass 1k is my choice.

I use sandpaper on 3/4" thick acrylic.
Shapton 1.5 Kuromaku, Leaves a better finish than the SS 1k and doesn't clog the same way.

I find the my Shapton 2k Pro works best on lots of steels, and my King 1k will pick up on the rest of them.

For true full bevel set Shapton 1.5K. For really old razors that don't need that much Botan toishi.
