Fatboy repair

Ok, all you repair gurus: I got a Fatboy that was described as "not opening all the way" and figured it would be a matter of soaking, cleaning etc. I got it and it was pretty mangled. The center bar was twisted so that the middle pin connectors were visibly separated. Also, the adjuster spun freely and there is no clip/spring where it should be (the red part). I was able to disassemble it to soak and managed to straighten the center bar. I also have an old beat-up fatboy for parts, but it's a newer model and I can't just take the center bar from it to replace the one that's bent. BUT, is it possible to use the spring from that one in the other one? Is it just a matter of putting it in place? Thanks in advance!

Pictures please. The spring like you are saying is marely a stopper, it shouldn't be a problem if you use the part from a newer FB.

I'll try to take some pictures tonight when I get home. I'm not sure what to call it but it's the piece right above the adjuster dial that indicates which setting you're on and gives the audible click.
