Fat Boy or Slim?

So I guess that my RAD is kicking in hard core, and I have decided I need to have an adjustable Gillette. Thing is what one? The toggle doesn't appeal to me . I know that finding a good Aristocrat adjustable at a reasonable price are far and few between so I guess a standard Fat Boy or Slim will have to do.
What are the shave quality of the two razors, the more info I have the easier the decision will be. Opinions are more than welcome

Shave quality is great, once you figure what settings are good for you.
The Fatboy is a heavier & fat handled razor.
The slim is just that, slim.
Both give an excellent shave.

I think your best bet is to get a slim on the B/S/T site or pick up both like I did.

+1 on getting both. I can't say which is better, depends on my mood really. I tend to use my Fatboy more frequently. I also have a Super Adjustable but I don't enjoy using it as much as my FB and Slim - it just doesn't feel as well balanced to me. I only hang onto it because it's a birth year razor.

I have been watching the B/S/T for the last week but the slims and fat boys are always gone before I get there. There are lots on ebay but I think I would trust the sellers here first. I won't be buying for about a week. Because I have to pay for the parts on my new bike first. I have too many hobbies:001_huh:

I think that the two are remarkably similar in shave quality. Choose the one that you come across first. (You'll eventually buy the other, too ).

I wanna be sedated!
I have a slim shaves great. I want a Fatboy if I can find one reasonable in a case. If cost is an issue go with the slim 1ST to see if you like an adjustable. I picked mine up nearly mint in a case for $20.00 on ebay. If cost is not an issue enjoy the hunt.

I was able to find a slim a month or two ago at a yard sale. I just picked up a Fat Boy the same way. The FB's heavier handle and head feel more comfortable to me. I usually shave with a GEM 1912 and the FB has a very similar feel to it. I gave the Slim a week when I first got it. Maybe I'll go back to it next week and see how it feels compared to the FB.

I have both. The slim was always awkward for me. Once I tried the fatboy there was almost no turning back. It is my favorite DE.

I think I like the slim better. Hell, I dont know. I really liked the slim set on 7, tried it on the fatboy and was unimpressed. Sold the fatboy, bought a slim. Recently I bought a fatboy and sold the slim lol. I like the fatboy on 8, seems much better. I think I just need to buy both!

You'll get a variety of opinions on this one.

the first good DE shave I ever got was with a Fatboy. I mean the first real "a ha!" moment.

having said that, my everyday razor is a Slim.

I think if funds are not unlimited you should get a Slim first, just because they're considerably less expensive. Then, if you like it you can decide if you want to try a Fatboy.

I have the Slim, and I'm totally satisfied with it. A few good points for the Slim are:

1. The Slim is usually cheaper
2. There are more of them than Fatboys
3. The Slim's head is less bulky
4. The Slim's handle isn't that slim
5. I'd rather shave with Slim than rub a Fat Boy all over my face!

That is exactly why I wont get rid of my slim. I know one of these days I'll try it and love it. But right now my Fatboy is king.

You definitely need both. Love my slim by the way, but haven't tried the fat boy yet.

The Slim has a thinner head does it not? Or are they both the same and only the handles are different? I have problems getting under my nose with all the razors I have and it takes some manuvering to get a close shave in that area.
Right now I have in order of purchase:
EJ89L
50s Focket Flare Tip
1948-50 Aristocrat
1938-1941 Canadian Tech Fat Handle
40s Rocket
19?? Soluna
I just started with the vintage razors a few weeks ago, I was given the Flare Tip, and everytime I go to the flea market looking for an adjustable I come home with a couple. I did manage to pass on a Gillette Knack last week, the styling just didn't float my boat, and the seller was a little rude when I suggested that he take out the old rusted blade.

Personally, I'd start with the Slim, unless you know you prefer a razor with a heavier handle. It's much less expensive than the Fatboy (and less hyped ), but it's quite similar (just a bit lighter), and it even has a lower profile head (easier to shave under the nose). If you like the Slim, you could always get a Fatboy to compare, and if you don't, I'd rather have a $12 mistake than a $40 mistake.

I have found the Slim to be more effortlessly agile than the Fatboy, but also that with a bit more attention and care I feel that I can get the same level of agility with my Fatboy, just not so effortlessly. In the end, I can get very good shaves from either one, it's just that in my own experience I have to try a little bit harder with the Fatboy.

I think they are fairly close in performance. If you like a heavier razor, go with the FB. If weight does not matter go with the slim since it usually is cheaper.
With either one you can go wrong. :001_smile

So it seems that the consensus is to go with both, but failing that start with a slim. I see there is one up for sale in the BST and the price was lowered today and looks like it is gone now:sad: I have a couple on my ebay watch list. Hopefully this will end my RAD. I am hoping that its like feeding a craving, if you don't give it what it wants it never goes away. So whats a good price for a Slim Aristocrat in good condition?
