Fake Terre D'Hermes on Ebay

I don't want to out the guy just yet as he claims innocence and ignorance but if you are planning on buying Terre D'Hermes on Ebay you are welcome to PM me and I'll disclose his ebay ID to you in private. I told him I would give a couple days to check his existing stock to see if my fake bottle was slipped in with some real product by mistake and if not encouraged him to remove his auctions or I would report him. He was incredibly fast to reply and refund my money in full including shipping.

I'll post some comparison photos this weekend showing the differences between a real bottle and the fake I purchased from him for my girlfriends son.

The fake bottle was really good at a casual glance but really bad upon close inspection and the scent was only close for about the first 10 seconds of application and then smelled like french fries :scared:

I've been buying on ebay for years and have heard the horror stories but have never seen it in person until now.

My advice would be to at least know what the real juice smells like and ideally what the real bottle looks and feels like before you go shopping for a deal on ebay. It may have been a bunch of inexperienced buyers or it may have been my luck to get a fake bottle but this guy has 100% positive feedback on 50+ transactions all for 3.3oz bottles of Terre D'Hermes. He also uses stock photos so there are no clues from just looking at the auction page and the price was auction based so no red flags there either.

This has been my girlfriends son's signature scent for over a year now since I gifted him a bottle and he wasn't fooled for one minute after I handed it to him to take a look at and smell. I have also handled a few bottles myself when I was selling decants of it last year and would never post this warning if I wasn't 100% positive that my bottle was fake.

I'm not the guy who will advise you to never buy anything on ebay but I will advise you to be cautious!

Please post some pics and do a little write up if you have time. I like seeing those. I have seen a few Youtube videos where people compare real and fake bottles side by side. I have seen videos for Chanel Allure Sport, Paco Robanne 1 Million, a few CREEDS, and a few others......but not TdH.

Back when I was in Asia, I would see vendors with tables full of counterfeit perfumes. Some of them were done very, very well.......even the box!

So did you know the TdH was fake before you sprayed some? Or did you examine the bottle after the juice smelled like french fries?

Are you sure that it's fake? You might have gotten their new autumn LE scent. Pomme De Terre D'Hermes.

I've gotten obvious fakes on ebay before from sellers with high ratings. I've been burned by fragrancenet also. I only buy from macys or nordstroms in person now, not worth saving a few bucks and risking getting a fake or old stock on the net.

I bought a .42 oz bottle on ebay about a month ago. I can't be sure, but it doesn't seem to be legit. It smells like a very weak version of TdE. The vendor is a 'top seller' with over 700 transactions and 99.9% feedback. Anyway, probably better to pay a few extra bucks and buy from a truly reputable dealer.

How so? They are a major fragrance website. I have a hard time believing they would knowingly sell fakes. They even pay the big bucks to be highlighted on a Google search at the top of the page.

I got a bottle of Chanel Anteus from them and it smelled terrible. I'd never smelled it before so I didn't know what it was supposed to smell like. I sold it to someone on basenotes and he immediately sent it back to me and I threw it away. Later on I smelled it in a department store and it smelled nothing like what the bottle I got did. I can't say if it was fake, the bottle and box it came in appeared authentic but there was definately something wrong with the juice inside.

That is interesting. Chanel is probably the most counterfeited brand in the world. Antaeus has gone through a few reformulations from what I understand. I wonder if the juice just went bad. Does that ever happen with fragrances? I suppose if you store them in hot warehouse they could spoil.......I have always wondered how and where these internet suppliers store their juice.

It is tough to say....I think sometimes we might work ourselves up into believing it might be fake because we convince ourselves it does not smell the exact same as what we remember in the store. Generally, small bottles are not counterfeited. It makes more sense to fake the big bottles so one can sell them for a higher price. Ebay is sketchy for fragrances. However, if you can find a good deal on a "tester" bottle, that is always a good find because no one is going to counterfeit testers.

I have ordered many fragrances through Amazon (directly from them, not 3rd party sellers using Amazon as a store front) and have never had a problem. And you can always rest with Amazon knowing that if something is wrong with it, you can return it.

I will absolutely post some photos along with a description of the differences in the photos. I was 95% sure the bottle was fake before I sprayed it, the final 5% of me realized it was fake 10 seconds after spraying it. I'm the type of guy who loves to read and educate myself on scams, computer viruses, social engineering, etc and to hold this fake bottle in my hand was actually a neat experience (especially after I received my refund ). Even though it's a fake, there is still a certain level of detail in the bottle that amazes me when I think of the trouble they must go through to create the fake. It hardly seems worthwhile on a sub $100.00 product but that's just me.

Ha ha, I actually love TdH (the real stuff) but on my skin it's completely smothering and overwhelming especially if it's even remotely warm outside. I really enjoy smelling it on other people though. Dr. Harris Windsor and Yardley Citrus & Wood are similar enough to TdH for my taste without the monster sillage and I am enjoying them both in moderation this summer!!

Since everyone knows that I'm a vendor that sells some EdT decants I thought it worth mentioning that I also only buy from department stores or sites such as luckyscent or sephora when it comes to the scents that I sell samples of. This particular TdH purchase was a gift for my girlfriends son who has been wearing TdH as his signature scent for the last year or so and I am not opposed to bargain shopping for a gift in this circumstance. We are heading to Nordstroms tonight after work to pick up a real bottle of TdH :001_cool:

I've never heard of fake mini bottles but I suppose anything is possible.

As promised, here are the comparison photos of the fake bottle I purchased on ebay compared to a real bottle purchased from a department store:

$tdh1.jpg
Fake on left, Real on the right.
This photo shows the different color of the juice. The fake bottle has a crazy long curly atomizer straw as well as the metal plate that is coming loose and also a flaw in the clear label (difficult to see in this photo) in the upper left corner. All seemingly small details but when you have handled a number of high end perfume bottles it's the little details that really stand out.

$tdh2.jpg
Fake.
Close up of the metal plate that is coming loose and the flaw in the clear label. Also notice the less intense orange and scratchy looking type for the logo.

$tdh3.jpg
Real.
Close of the real metal plate, nice and flush. Also notice the nice clean logo, intense orange, clear letters.

$tdh4.jpg
Fake on the left, Real on the right.
Not only is the metal plate coming loose it is also crooked. Also, notice the deep and clear etching in the real cap versus the fake cap.

Fake on the left, Real on the right.
Just another photo highlighting the differences I mentioned above.

The fake bottle has a cheap metallic orange sticker on the bottom that is loosing color.

Great photo showing the atomizer straw, metallic sticker, color difference and also the crazy glass curves inside the bottle itself.

Fake on top, Real on the bottom.
The real bottle has a serial # etched into the bottom part of the leg, no such serial # anywhere on the fake bottle.

It is tough to tell from the pictures, but from what I can see, that is a pretty good fake. The printing on the bottle is slightly thinner on the fake, the etching on the bottle cap is not as deep or pronounced, the metal on the top of the bottle is lifting a bit on the fake, but most of all.......the juice is greenish. I can see how that might pass though for someone who is not familiar with TdH. I am very surprised the seller refunded you immediately without wanting a return. Makes me think that he knows he is selling fakes. What do you think?

I don't think he was 100% but he probably got them for a steal and had his suspicions.

Guys,
I have found that most of the perfumes that I brought online are fake and seller is ready to give me refunds for them. But I am not able to decide about Terres d'Hermes whether it is legit or not? Here are my observations:

1) When I look at the liquid by placing the bottle in front of a light source, I see very small bubbles uniformly distributed throughout the liquid. It is not a clear juice.

2) The dark orange color and the inner-bottom of the bottle in not uniform. When I look at it from the front of the bottle, I can see that it is darker at one side and gradually becomes lighter upto the other side.

3) The metal can be rotated 1 mm by force.

Apart from above, the fragrance is accurate, the other things about the bottle are perfect. All printed text are perfect.
Although seller mentioned that the bottles ate testers, but my bottle does not seem like a tester.

I don't want to return it blindly because I like the scent and it is cheap.

I'd say in the end, is the quality of the scent and your liking of it worth the money you paid for it, to you? If it had some other generic name on the bottle, but the same scent/product inside, would you have paid what you did for it? If so, then no reason to ask for a return. If not, well, you know the answer.

I just received my 100 ml of terre d'hermes from an ebay seller. It was suppose to be a gift to my brother but when I received it noticed that the color of the box and the printing are slightly off from the original. The actual hermes box is darker brown and also has an embossed number near the upc bar code. The bar code number for 100 ml is not even the correct one. I am now trying to get my money back or I will have to put in a resolution complaint with PAYPAL who are very good about doing the right thing.

I wonder if I I got mine from the same seller. I just checked mine and I have the same barcode as your fake. I have a sample from a reliable seller it last at longer than the fake.
