I know this has been discussed but why I didn't see except in one case was why you guys use what you do and what else has been tried. I currently use Noxema (tub) followed by a conditioner in the shower prior to shaving. What do you guys use for washing your face and why do you use it compared to other products you have tried.

I would worry about a facial scrub irritating my skin, especially just before a shave. When I am going to shave I apply some hair conditioner to moisturize the stubble. Then I shave, using soap or cream, and my face certainly feels clean after that.
Sometimes I will also face-lather without shaving, instead of using bar soap to clean my face. This is an excellent way to practice one's lather skills, try out new soaps, and break in brushes.

I no longer wash my face with anything other than shave soap. I use it like I would any soap and rinse before lathering just to pre-clean before taking my brush to it, but I've been considering maybe lathering with the brush prior to lathering for a shave because I use pre-shave oil and I'm wondering if I'm really cleaning my face thoroughly or just stirring around dirt and dead skin mixed with oil, which sounds rather bad lol.
Edit: I no longer use other face washing stuff because I see no need. Most of the facial cleansers on the market have lower quality ingredients than my soaps and dry my skin out.

Awesome to clear away excess oils without drying. Highly recommended. It also seems to improve my shaves, especially my neck area.
Daily I use a gentle face wash (by a company called Natural Instincts).

I use both the neutrogena face wash and scrub, on occassion when I need to wash my face. I use green clay once a week, and that has solved a lot of problems.
I use Clinique Men's Face Scrub......my face gets really oily and dirty throughout the day. It works great for me.
For daily pre-shave wash I use the JB Pure Clean Daily Facial cleanser and for occasional exfoliation I grab JB Face Buff Energizing Scrub.
The daily has aloe, glycerin, witch hazel, lavender, and several other ingredients that really leave my face moisturized and ready for a shave.
The scrub has a good menthol and licorice kick, and isn't too aggressive, in fact I used it everyday for a long time.
