Face Lathering

Today, I discovered the joy of face lathering. Never tried it before, but I couldn't locate my shaving bowl this morning after a bathroom cleanup, so I attempted my first face lather. It produced the best later I've ever had before. It's so much easier than bowl lathering. I feel like an idiot for not trying before.

I used to be on the fence about shaving soaps because I couldn't get a good lather with them, and decided to exclusively use shaving creams, but I'll be keeping my QCS croap now. I almost pulled the trigger on getting a scuttle, but now I have no use for it!

I just started recently and I have a couple pucks of VDH that I use. I first started bowl lathering, but this past week I've been face lathering, and WOW! The lather is so much nicer and thicker than before. Love it! Less weepers and nicks because of the nice lather, it really makes a difference.

Agreed, my lather is so much thicker and spreads better than at any point I've bowl lathered. I'm definitely going to be picking up more shaving soaps now. I sold off all but one thinking I'd only bowl lather shaving creams.

Wait till you try your first shave stick.

Oh brother are you in for a real treat.

You may toss everything else out the window.

Welcome to the club! I think it does get the best results, without question.

I think your observation about keeping your QCS is spot-on, as well; they yield excellent results with face lathering.

Enjoy!

Out of all those shave sticks, what do you recommend?

In the order I prefer:

No... I tried to say 1 though what ever and I kept moving them around. so all I can say is...

Arko rocks. Tabac and Irisch Moos (made by the same company but different scents) rock, Palmolive, LaToja, and Speick rock. Velobra rocks. The wake up is a melt and pour (glycerine based) but it has a fantastic menthol scent that tops my list in the hot summer months.

If you are looking for one to try first I would point you to either Arko, Tabac, Palmolive, or Speick first as all of these are lather monsters. Irisch Moos has been discontinued but the Tabac lathers just as well and has a different scent to it.

Arko and Palmolive are priced at $1 +/- so well worth getting if you can add one to your next order from someone.

If they were all sitting out on the counter and I had to choose one to use, it would take me so long that I would have a full beard before I made the decision

You might want to go to the shave stick brotherhood thread and ask some of the other shave stick users what they prefer.

I like everything so I am not a good one to ask for recommendations :001_smile

Thanks for the recommendation Turtle.

As for the brush scuttle, Dcobranci, not sure about that. It's quite expensive for what it is. I might just use a makeshift where I get a ceramic cup and put it in bowl with warm water.

Find a "World Market" store near you and take $10 with you. They have a gravy warming boat that is a killer brush scuttle and it is under $10

Here is an old B&B thread about the scuttle (gravy boat): http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...ould-be-a-brush-scuttle?p=3698726#post3698726

Whoa, looks like a cheap alternative to a brush scuttle. Unfortunately, the nearest World Market is 3 hours away. I tried to see if they have an online store, it doesn't look like they do. If someone would be willing to buy one new and ship it out to me, I'd reimburse you for that!

Your profile does not say where you are located. You might want to update this.

To update your location profile:

1) Click Settings at the top of the page
2) On the left sidebar under My Settings click Edit Profile
3) Scroll down and enter a general location (how specific you want to get is up to you)

I grate all my shaving soaps and put the in a screw up tube, and rub them all over my face, like any other shave stick. That's the only way I can build a good lather with soap.

Any of the harder soaps I have gets rubbed on my face. Gets the right amount of soap directly onto the whiskers.

Find a "World Market" store near you and ...
call them to see if they have this. Their website says it's "available in stores," but it sure wasn't available in my store; they had never seen one.

Seemed like a good idea, too. Oh, well ... :glare:

I found an alternative to the World Market gravy scuttle. Stay tuned. I just bought it, and I'll post what it looks like and what it's called after I've tried it. I'm not 100% sure if this will work, but it looks so much better. =)
