Face Lathering Vs Mug

Curious how many of you face lather(as I do) Vs using a shave mug. Never used a mug so maybe I'm missing out on something great. When using tube cream I actually hand lather using my hand as a mug, but this is both messy and annoying. So which is better?

I used to use a bowl, but then I dropped my brush and shattered my beautiful Edwin Jagger lather bowl, so I have been face lathering lately.

But I am testing some creams right now so I have been using a cereal bowl.

I've done both, but tend to stick to face lathering using a soap stick. I find it is quicker and you also very quicker feedback on your lather - it is easier to feel the thickness / slickness of the lather on your face than see it in the mug.

That said, I will occasionally go back to the mug to see if I am missing anything, but I always end up face lathering.

I face lather 98% of the time (soaps & creams). About the only time I use my scuttle is in the winter months to keep the lather warm.

I'm a face latherer personally. I just love the feeling of the brush on my face, and face lathering gives me even more of that badger-scrubbing goodness. Furthermore, when I use a mug I feel like I'm doing the dishes at the end of my shave--a task I would rather avoid if possible.

I lather in a rather large Cappuccino mug. Prior to that I was using a fairly deep cereal bowl. I like the cappuccino mug better, as it has a handle. :tongue_sm

I used to bowl lather, but now I face lather just because I find it quicker to do so and the lather builds a lot easier on my face. It's all about laziness. Now I use my bowl to just hold my brush between passes.

I use a bowl. I think I can control the lather better that way. I have tried to face lather a couple of time but it seemed like I was getting lather all over the place. On me, on the bathroom counter, etc. SWMBO was not happy.:blushing:

I use a large cappuccino mug also, i was in the grocery store one day and spied it and thought it would be ideal and so it has proved to be. I also face lather btw.

I use a tea cup to start the lather and then finish on my face. So far, this has worked out the best for me.

I tried hand lathering, but ended up making a huge mess and wasting a lot of cream.

I use a small bowl. I'm actually making one right now with sort of a corrugated inner surface to see if that makes a difference.

face latherer here, have tried a bowl but not with great success. that said will maybe give it a go when i try my first cream - after i've tried all these great soaps first of course!

I do both. I mix a nice, thick lather in the bowl and then I lather on the face some more to work in the foam and massage the area. It feels good and gets the skin ready to feel a razor blade.

I have only recently started using soaps and found that face lathering is far superior for that product, previously used two tubes of bigelow and only bowl lathered. verdict for me is i think i like soap over cream, face over bowl. +1 on being able to control the consistency of the lather on your face.

Face lather. Just swirl a little soap on the brush or dab some cream in the palm, rub it on my face and a glorious lather just explodes. I don't see any need for the extra time it takes to bowl lather.
