Face lathering for 2nd pass

I usually like lathering in a bowl with a cream, it's very easy to relather for the second pass. As stated in another thread, I'm going to a service academy next year and will need to save time and not have to keep a bowl with me. I read a guide on here about face lathering with proraso cream (which I also use) but I can't find the link now.

It was at night so I just went in to practice since proraso is relatively cheap. It worked fine, I lathered then wiped off cream and lathered again. But the past couple days I tried when I was actually shaving, and the second time it was a incredibly thin watery layer after my first pass. I think maybe it's because there's no stubble to help it "foam" up? It didn't provide much cushion, so I cut myself a few times.

Does anyone have any tips for having the second lathering be just as nice as the first?

Thanks everyone!!

When i'm travelling light i just lather up in the cupped palm of my hand. If I try face lathering for more than one pass I end up with a very red face :blushing:

use you hand as lather bowl

or take you brush make a breach between it then do shave cream between its
and lathering up

What you'll need is a well loaded brush. Or after the first pass take it for another spin on the soap (reload).

Perhaps you should lather up but not wipe off the excess cream. When you lather up, after massaging the lather into your face, smooth it out by "painting" your face with the brush. Once you are done your second pass, "paint" your face again and then squeeze out the remaining lather from the brash and apply it to your beard. If you've done the lathering correctly, you'll have thick and creamy lather left.

perhaps the best solution is what Dharion told

Like others said; use a little more product. Take care too that you don't use more lather than you really need on the first pass.

Make sure you load the brush up plenty so there is enough for multiple passes. If lather is lacking, go back and hit the puck again or add a bit more cream. I rinse my face with warm water between passes, and that helps with the lather I find.

Thanks everyone, I'll make good use of the tips; I've never tried palm lathering so it might be perfect.

In addition to what others have already said....
I have palm lathered many times with Proraso, like when traveling. While it's not my preferred method (kinda messy), it works great. I think Mantic has a bit on palm lathering in a making lather video.

You also might want to look into some of the sticks that people recommend. I've been face lathering with a stick of Moos for the last 2 months and it works great, too.
