I had one of those "right place, right time" experiences on eBay this weekend. Saw a "Fat Boy" listed with a BIN for under $30. The pictures looked a little "goldish", as nickel razors can look if the color compensation is not properly set. The listing was a day old at that point. I sent a message to the seller, who promptly replied that it was, in fact, gold plated.
CLICK . . . SOLD!!! Addicted to pretty gold razors! Executive on the way!!! Figured it would look nice in the den next to my Aristocrat, Slim Aristocrat, and gold Gem Junior!
It arrived yesterday. A quick cleanup with Scrubbing Bubbles revealed a beautiful, shiny low-mileage razor with no plating loss or defects EXCEPT for some pitting on one guide bar edge and one light spot on the handle . . . probably from being laid down wet. The numbers and trim band are as black as the proverbial Ace of Spades!
The best part came this morning . . . probably the finest shave I have ever had from a Gillette!!!
I tried two different fatties last year, and did not like either one. One was blood-thirsty, the other an irritant.
This Executive, however, is a horse of a different color!! I set it on '5', loaded a simple DG Stainless blade, and just got the easiest, smoothest two-pass shave that a Gillette ever gave me! Almost BBS after two passes - just some very light buffing under the chin for a "third pass" was all I needed.
As per my usual routine, I used a balm right after rinsing. Later, once dressed, I splashed on some Clubman . . . and that, too, was amazing. NO STING at all from Mr. Pinaud!!!
Life is nice!!
