Executive Score - What A Shave!!

I had one of those "right place, right time" experiences on eBay this weekend. Saw a "Fat Boy" listed with a BIN for under $30. The pictures looked a little "goldish", as nickel razors can look if the color compensation is not properly set. The listing was a day old at that point. I sent a message to the seller, who promptly replied that it was, in fact, gold plated.

CLICK . . . SOLD!!! Addicted to pretty gold razors! Executive on the way!!! Figured it would look nice in the den next to my Aristocrat, Slim Aristocrat, and gold Gem Junior! :001_tt1:

It arrived yesterday. A quick cleanup with Scrubbing Bubbles revealed a beautiful, shiny low-mileage razor with no plating loss or defects EXCEPT for some pitting on one guide bar edge and one light spot on the handle . . . probably from being laid down wet. The numbers and trim band are as black as the proverbial Ace of Spades!

The best part came this morning . . . probably the finest shave I have ever had from a Gillette!!!

I tried two different fatties last year, and did not like either one. One was blood-thirsty, the other an irritant.

This Executive, however, is a horse of a different color!! I set it on '5', loaded a simple DG Stainless blade, and just got the easiest, smoothest two-pass shave that a Gillette ever gave me! Almost BBS after two passes - just some very light buffing under the chin for a "third pass" was all I needed.

As per my usual routine, I used a balm right after rinsing. Later, once dressed, I splashed on some Clubman . . . and that, too, was amazing. NO STING at all from Mr. Pinaud!!!

Life is nice!! :001_rolle

Nice! I picked up my Exec in the mid 90's at a garage sale....it was soo grimy I though it was black....it cleaned up well and has been my daily shaver ever since....well...until I joined B&B....RAD RAD and more RAD....but I will NEVER give up my gold Fatty!!!!
Great find!:w00t:

Yes, I should have taken pics before I posted, but I was just so darned excited!! Not much excitement up here in the North Country . . . when it happens, we just get wicked crazy and post razor stories without pictures!!

Here is the current rotation . . .

And a close-up of "the guys" just hanging out in the lather bowl . . .

(And a special thanks to DonOhio for my other new addition, the G-Type!)

SWMBO says I need to find a real job soon . . . she's getting worried about the razor thing . . . :blushing:

Congrats on the razor Brad....very nice....and great pics.

I am rediscovering the FatBoy this week. Forgot how enjoyable it is.

P.S. Leave some gold ones for me to find, OK?...LOL

I'm not a fan of Gold Razors(only have 4 or 5):confused1, but there are deals still to be had on the Bay. BTW, great looking shave gear assortment:drool:

Apologizing in advance for what may be a stupid question...
What IS the difference between the executive and the fatboy, apart from plating?

No a bad question really.

Actually there is a different knurling pattern on the handle.

Do not have one to study closer.....

IMHO, the biggest difference between Fat Boy and Executive, other than the plating, is the SHAVE . . . just like the Slim Aristocrat vs. the Slim Adjustable, the "gold-plated" premium versions of these two razors are the cream of the crop . . . tighter tolerances, better performance, smoother and closer shave.

Or, maybe, I just have this thing for gold-plated razors . . . :tongue_sm
